A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

Prescribed medicines essential for the duration of the flight, except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.
That's hard core.
And it's not workable. There's no way any sane person would check in any prescription medication needed for the duration of your trip. The risk of the airline losing your luggage is far, far too high to risk losing essential medication.
To: Petronski
Normally one is admonished severely NOT to check prescription medicine. People will doubtless lose vital medications they need not during flight but immediately afterwards, this way.

Right, NO carry on's No liquids, (hair gels, shampoo, etc).

Aren't these Sky News folks great?
Fox should run them in the evening instead of replays of Hannity.

Can't wait for the spin CAIR is going to put on this.

True, but the triggers could be traveling with the bags and can be set to explode at the will of the suicide passenger.
I think blowing up over the ocean is the last choice.
IMO the intent was to at first blow up as they get over land in the United States and the last of the 20 or so getting off the ground might have been exploded over land in Brittan.

can anybody tell me of a liquid explosive that could be contained in a baby bottle that might be able to blow up an airliner? Short of liquefied gasses such as hydrogen, propane, NG, etc... I can't think of anything. By the way, none of these can be contained in baby bottles, hand lotion containers, or contact solution bottles--all currently banned on flights to the US.
