A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
Heheh, I just thought about Shep Smith, who was back in Israel because that was supposed to be the big story. No face time for him, today, and he won't get to be hysterical on air.

The ticket agent who issued the tickets to mohammed atta and his co conspirator knew something was off and wouldn't issue them their ticket for their connecting flight. He wanted someone else to look at them. He still has nightmares. He also revealed in an Oprah (yes, I watch Oprah occassionally, judge judy was a repeat) interview that the woman who issued them their next ticket commited suicide.
He said that even though somehting was off, and sending up red flags to him, they answered the question properly, and there was nothing written at the time that he could do to detain them or question them further. I'm not sure what there is now that he could do to stop them though. Anyone know anything on that?
First you raze all mosques and deport all imans.
Then you make every Muslim in America renounce their religion before a US Magistrate. Or leave.
Then you don't let them in any more.
Then you look for the people that look like they are from Muslim and don't let them in the airport.

Well, the article didn't address it, as if we couldn't guess. Although, I suppose it's notable that they were actually referred to as terrorists and not insurgents, disaffected, disgruntled, misunderstood or profoundly sad.

You play into the hands of terrorism when you curl up into a fetal position.
Bring a quran...guaranteed that they won't be confiscating those.
Then I'm REALLY glad this attack was thwarted.
My wife is just waiting for marital law to be invoked.
Unfortunately, it will take about THREE MORE 9-11s to get to that point! That would call for an additional 12,000 Americans to be slaughtered on thier home soil by agents of the Religion of Peace. Give it five more years I would say.

No matter what the "rules" are, every ticket agent must consider that he or she is the last line of defence for every person boarding the plane. The example of the passengers of United 93 must be their attitude. Let the lawyers sort it out afterward if they cancel someone's ticket or the entire flight.
It would have helped all of us to understand this if the story of the ticket agents you mentioned had gotten more publicity.
I'm all for splitting up into two nations:
The Libs can have the Northeast, along the Canada border, down to Baja.
Conservatives get the sunny south, midwest and central west.
Libs can sing Kumbaya and throw away all security screening at their airports (IF they still allow fuel-guzzling planes to enter their realm). No border barriers, no wiretapping...wait! They'll replace the CIA with the DEPARTMENT-FOR-MEETING-THE-DEMANDS-OF-OUR-MUSLIM-FRIENDS.
Meanwhile, WE will have a 10-ft electronic wall with guard towers every 1/2 mile around our entire border. Every citizen required to train in the reserves [like Israel]. Strict control on immigration...and then only for those with desired skills. Leaking national secrets punishable by death...no make that punishable by exiling them to Blue America.
And so on.
And then we sit back and see how long the ninnies up north survive.
