Makes one wonder if Saad is wearing a burqa and coming with the women.
Makes one wonder if his dad is wearing barqas these days, too.
THANKS Velveeta for the info.

Chinas Military Looks to Outer Space
By AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE, BEIJING
Outer space is emerging as a possible theater of operations for Chinas armed forces, an analysis published in the mass-circulation Peoples Daily said Aug. 2.
The analysis, from a group of unidentified researchers at the National Defense University, listed space as an area where the Peoples Liberation Army must be equipped and prepared to defend the nations interests.
Our military should not only protect Chinas national sovereignty and territorial integrity, but should also protect the oceans and transport routes and other economic interests as well as ... the security of space, it said.
Similar suggestions were put forward last month in the Study Times, a newspaper published by the Communist Partys Central Party School.
We should strive to develop coordinated land, sea, air and space systems, the paper said.
This seemed to mark a departure from previous strategic literature in China, which has tended to give space a less prominent place in defense planning.
The most recent government white paper on defense published in late 2004 only made scattered references to space and did not characterize it as a possible theater of operations for its armed forces.
China instead used the white paper to urge efforts to prevent an expensive arms race in space. Outer space is the common property of mankind, it stated.
China hopes that the international community would take action as soon as possible to conclude an international legal instrument on preventing the weaponization of, and arms race in, outer space through negotiations.
Despite the frequent reassurances that China wants space to remain weapons-free, in reality its space program has to a large extent been a military undertaking from the very beginning.
In official chronologies, the start of Chinas space endeavors is often taken to be almost exactly 50 years ago, on October 8, 1956, when it opened its first institute of missile and rocket research.
In a white paper on its space program published in August 2004, the government also acknowledged that national defense purposes were among the main objectives for the development of satellites.
And just like the first American and Soviet astronauts, all Chinas men in space so far have been former fighter pilots.
Reports suggest that governments across the globe do pay attention to the defense implications of space flight, to the extent that fiscal and technical constrains make that possible.
Earlier this year The New York Times reported the U.S. government was conducting research into building a ground-based laser weapon that could destroy enemy satellites in orbit.
The secret project would use beams of concentrated light to destroy such satellites to disrupt enemy communications.
The weapon is part of a wide-ranging effort to develop defensive and offensive space weapons, the Times said, citing federal officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The weapon would use sensors, computers and flexible mirrors to counteract atmospheric turbulence.

Coalition, Iraqi Soldiers Capture Kidnappers, Terrorists, Seize Weapons
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, August 2, 2006 In separate operations throughout Iraq today and July 31, coalition and Iraqi forces foiled a kidnapping attempt, captured eight terrorists, and seized numerous weapons, U.S. military officials in Iraq reported.
Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers foiled a kidnapping attempt by four men disguised as Iraqi policemen in southeastern Baghdad early today.
Soldiers from Company C, 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, spotted four kidnappers dressed in Iraqi police uniforms attempting to abduct an Iraqi civilian. The four kidnappers were detained for questioning.
In another operation, Iraqi national police and soldiers from 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, captured eight suspected terrorists during a joint operation in the Doura neighborhood, near the center of Baghdad, at about 9:15 a.m. today.
The operation focused on locating and detaining suspected terrorists; soldiers searched seven houses in the area. The soldiers detained the suspected terrorists and seized weapons, various bomb-making materials, terrorist propaganda and two vehicles.
Elsewhere, soldiers of 1st Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers from Battery B, 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, located a munitions cache during a combined patrol in eastern Baghdad July 31.
A tip from an Iraqi citizen led the patrol to a location where they discovered 18 60 mm mortar rounds in two separate ammunition boxes; the rounds had fuses already installed.
It took the soldiers less than 15 minutes from the time the tip was called in to locate the cache, officials said. The ordnance was collected and removed to a secured location in less than an hour.

Iraqi Forces Search University, Target Death Squads
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, August 2, 2006 Iraqi security forces searched a university in Ramadi, Iraq, today in response to insurgent activity and targeted militia death squads in four operations yesterday, U.S. military officials in Iraq reported.
This morning, Iraqi security forces, with support from coalition forces, began searching Al Anbar University in southwestern Ramadi, which is being used as a center for insurgent activity.
Iraqi and coalition forces have received sniper fire from the university on multiple occasions, and credible intelligence reports indicate the university is being used as an insurgent safe haven and command center, officials said. Iraqi and coalition forces are securing the university to provide a safe and secure educational environment.
Soldiers from 1st Brigade, 7th Iraqi Army Division, with support from soldiers assigned to the U.S. Army 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, are searching the university. The 7th Division Military Police Company is assisting in providing security.
Military personnel will leave the university as soon as possible, turning over security to Iraqi police, officials said. Operations were planned to coincide with a recess from summer classes.
Elsewhere, Iraqi army and security forces conducted four early-morning raids in Baghdad yesterday, capturing three primary suspects associated with death squads in an ongoing effort to stem activities of these organizations. The precision operations, conducted by Iraqi forces accompanied by coalition force observers, occurred in three areas, all in the western part of Baghdad.
In the Ashulla area of northwestern Baghdad, Iraqi army forces captured two individuals, including one known high-level insurgent leader. This leader controls several smaller cells that allegedly conduct improvised-explosive-device attacks against coalition forces; traffic in weapons; and kidnap, torture and murder Iraqi citizens and Iraqi soldiers. Officials believe one of this individuals punishment cells kidnapped and murdered 14 Iraqi soldiers in May as he looked on, officials said.
In the Rasheed area of southwestern Baghdad, Iraqi security forces conducted two separate raids and captured two primary targets. One individual is an insurgent informant alleged to be an active participant in targeting and killing Iraqi citizens. A second individual allegedly conducted a mortar attack against Baghdad International Airport, transported weapons and IEDs, and participated in the murder of Iraqi citizens, officials said.
During the fourth and final operation, Iraqi army scouts captured an insurgent cell leader and two others by in the Ghazaliya area of western Baghdad. This cell leader is believed to have conducted IED and rocket-propelled-grenade attacks against Iraqi and coalition forces; he also is believed to be involved in killing Iraqi citizens.

Ayatollah Bosnia-Herzegovina has asked for Iranian military aid to Hezbollah

Aug 1, 2006 Bahman Aghai Diba PhD International Law - Persian Journal
"Ayatollah Bosnia-Herzegovina" is the nickname that Iranians with a sense of humor have given to the Mullah Janati, the Secretary of the Guardians Council and one of the most conservative Islamo-fascists in Iran (1). He had gained this nickname due to his leading role in channeling Iranian money and dispatching Iranian volunteers to the war in the Bosnia, following the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.
The end-result of his effort was that most of the volunteers were coverted, married and settled in Bosnia and they never returned to Iran. The rest were expelled and the Bosnian government almost cut its relations with the regime of Iran and has since mostly voted against the Iranian positions in the international forums because it does not intend to be identified by a regime like Islamic Republic in Iran.
Now, Ayatollah Bosnia-Herzegovina has asked in Friday Congregational Prayer in Tehran that "Muslim leaders should arm Hezbollah in its fight against Israel... ."(2)
According to the Farsi Service of the BBC): "...he called supporting Hezbollah a religious duty?he compared the Israeli attack to Lebanon to the Ashora, the killing of the Third Imam of the Shiites [Hussein] in the war with the army of Yazid from the Omavid Dynasty...he called Sayyed Hassan Nasrollah, the leader of Lebanese Hezbollah, as the 'Man of the Century', and added: Hezbollah is really the friends of God, Ali, and his household. All people of the world are under the obligation to help this cause. The best assistance to the cause of God is fighting in the war of Islam against the infidels and I hope to see the celebrations for victory of Islam over infidels."(3)

"Hezbollah celebrates
civilians' casualties
Hitting Israeli cities "restores honor""
By Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook- Aug. 2, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "While the world debates about responsibility for Lebanese civilian casualties, Hezbollah takes unequivocal pride in its responsibility for causing Israeli civilians casualties. Indeed, Hezbollah celebrates its attacks on civilians as restoring "honor". Hezbollah TV, Al Manar, continues to broadcast video clips glorifying Hezbollah attacks on Israeli cities. Scenes showing Israeli civilians being rushed to the Hospitals are accompanied by the words:
"Resist! Explode! Shake! Destroy! Your weapon restores my country's honor."

That reminds me of the 9/11 memorial that was going to be shaped like the crescent & star. I'd be looking for who designed the building and check into that person. Although I can't imagine who OK'd the design, as it had to be obvious about the resemblance... Thanks for posting that.

"Hezbollah not terrorists: PM advisors"
By Sandra O'Malley
02aug06
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Muslim Community Reference Group is considering writing to Prime Minister John Howard asking the Government to reconsider its listing of the militant arm of Hezbollah as a terrorist organisation."
ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "But Ameer Ali, chairman of the Muslim advisory group set up last year in the wake of the London terrorist bombings, says Hezbollah should not be lumped in with groups like al-Qaeda.
"They should not condemn Hezbollah as a terrorist group," he said.
"I don't think they should judge that they are simply a terrorist organisation like al-Qaeda.
"It is part of Lebanese politics."
On its national security website, the Government says that Australian Security Intelligence Organisation believes Hezbollah's military wing is continuing to prepare, plan and foster the commission of acts involving threats to human life and serious damage to property."

"Experts: Dramatic Lung Aging for NYC 9/11 Responders"
Updated: August 2nd, 2006 01:49 PM PDT
DELTHIA RICKS
Newsday
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Respiratory function has been so severely compromised in some World Trade Center rescuers that even as the fifth anniversary of the attack approaches, experts are reporting a dramatic aging effect in the lungs of firefighters and others.
While some first responders have regained near-normal lung capacity, others have been forced into retirement because of persistent pulmonary disorders typified by asthma-like symptoms and a characteristic World Trade Center cough.
An analysis of New York City firefighters and other responders exposed to World Trade Center dust found that rescuers experienced a decrease in lung function equivalent to more than a decade of age-related decline in the first year following the 9/11 attacks."

Document http://70.168.46.200/Released/07-24-06/ISGQ-2005-00022470.pdf that was written sometimes after the Iraq war talks about an Iraqi dissident named Abu Abdallah who says that Iraqi WMD were moved to Syria before the war on the month of 10 Mouharam (Islamic calendar) i.e. March 10. The document was apparently reviewed by the Department of Defense as you the word D.O.D (in Latin letters) written on the side of the document.

Subject: We have information about the location of the Weapons of Mass Destruction
In the day of 10 Mouharam before the coalition forces started the war on Iraq, 50 trucks for land transportation entered Syria on an intermittent convoy. I met some of the drivers and they did not know what they carried in these trucks. These trucks were loaded from an unknown location in Baghdad and was brought to the drivers and the Iraqi Intelligence was with them. Each time they crossed a certain distance, the Iraqi Intelligence stopped them and asked them what are they carrying and their answer was we do not know. And when these trucks arrived to Syria in the area of Deir Al Zour the drivers were taken out of their trucks and the Syrian Intelligence ride instead. These trucks were entered into large warehouses and when these trucks were emptied it was given back to the Iraqi drivers. And they were given a reward worth of 200 dollars for the safety of arrival. One of the drivers mentioned to me that this was second time they carry these secrets loads and the first time was 1 Mouharam.
I have a friend in Syria who works in a Syrian company as partner with a Syrian merchant. This person is an Iraqi ex-Consul in the Iraqi embassies and he resigned from the diplomatic circle and he has strong connection with the Iraqi Embassy in Syria and he knows all the Iraqi Intelligence and those knows that I work for the Iraqi opposition in Syria. I was visiting him daily during this period to find out the important news. When the trucks entered Syria I went to him and told him that Iraqi Weapons entered Syria so he said to me who told you that and I said to him I knew from my sources, and he told me to keep this confidential and not tell anyone because it indeed entered.
