I doubt it's coincidence.
9/11 was a new moon as well.
August 22nd is also a Tuesday as was 9/11.
610AD to 632AD (22 years) the time of mohammed/advent of islam
24-hour forecast
The situation continues to be very fluid. Expect increased rocket attacks by Hezbollah and the expansion of the ground offensive by IDF (when Olmert finally lets them go).
Godzilla Observation - Yesterdays commando operation (see below) was amazing and classical Israeli chutzpah. However, the delay and limited extent of the IDF penetration into Lebanon is puzzling. Although Olmert is talking big, the undercurrent I am detecting is that he is still half-stepping and hamstringing the IDFs ground operations. Some think he sees this as another political opportunity rather than the existence of Israel being at stake. Olmert linked Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank to the success of the Lebanese campaign, drawing fire from across the Israeli political spectrum, especially his own party. He also announced the destruction of 13 Israeli home in the W. Bank (Samaria). Not going well with the people.
Israel Air Assault
Lebanese army and security officials said early Wednesday that special IDF forces attempted to kidnap Sheikh Muhammad Yazbek, a member of Hizbullahs High Council and one of 12 senior organization members, near Baalbek in the west Bekaa Valley. According to reports, the operation began with at least six rapid air strikes, after which IAF choppers attempted to land ground forces in the citys western sector. Haaretz reports 3 to 5 junior Hezbollah militants were captured, and several more were killed during the raid. Lebanese sources identified the men as Hussein Nasrallah, Hussein al-Burji and Ahmed al-Ghotah and described them as low ranking members of the group, according to Haaretz, and The captured Hussein Nasrallah has the same name as a Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
IDF Ground Offensive
Israel has attacked Hezbollah guerrillas with up to 6,000 20,000 Israeli troops on four fronts in south Lebanon on Wednesday. Widely differing troop counts relate to more fog of war, IDF is not being specific for OPSEC purposes. The IDF said the ground forces crossed the border at four different points and were aiming to reach four miles into Lebanon by Thursday. Thousands more were gathering at staging areas on the Israeli side of the border, ready to join the battles. The offensive really hasnt expanded any deeper or wider than yesterdays SITREP. Major points of the attack continue to be (from west to east):
1. Ayta ash Shab Very fierce fighting in this area.
2. Marun Al Ras area. This is the area IDF pulled back to after its brief excursion into Bint Jubayl.
3. Hula/Markaba area. This may include the area around Mays al Jabal to the south.
4. Addasseh-At Tayyabah area. Lebanese sources say the Israelis captured a hilltop at al-Aweida overlooking several villages, including Kfar Kila and Adaiseh.
With the recent call-up of reserves, there are nearly 6 divisions available to IDF to push into Lebanon. Most recent reports indicate that IDF is reinforcing the above break through areas, possibly indicating preparation for further attacks. RUMINT indicates that IDF is planning on securing the UN buffer zone (yellowed area in map above) by Thursday. That would put it about 2/3s of the way to the Litani River.
Hezbollah Rockets
Hezbollah guerrillas fired around 200 to 300 rockets into Israel on Wednesday, its most intense one-day barrage of the conflict, killing one person and wounding more than a dozen, medics said. One rocket slammed into a house on a kibbutz near the city of Nahariya, close to the Lebanese border, killing a 52-year-old man as he was riding his bicycle. Another round struck the occupied West Bank, the furthest target Hezbollah rockets have reached from Lebanon since fighting began on July 12. Hezbollah said it was a Khaibar-1 rocket, which Israel claims is Iranian-made. Godzilla: by an large, the majority of the rockets appear to hit open areas at a higher percentage than the beginning of the conflict. Evidence of degradation of Hezbollahs technical ability to direct the launches.

"Germany Probes Possible Terrorist Link to Bombs"
By REUTERS, BERLIN
ARTICLE SNIPPET "One of the bombs was discovered in an abandoned suitcase at a train station in Dortmund, which hosted some of last months World Cup matches.
Local state prosecutors said the bomb, which was later defused, could have seriously injured and killed people but gave no more details."
Yep, they are coming out of the woodwork all over the 'net -- kind of like cyber termites.
I knew there was a song or cartoon on this somewhere.
Smiling...
You read my mind.
"...Is this a coincidence?"
OPINION: I doubt it.
Moon cycles are for lunatics and AllMyJihad fits the profile.
Slow news day., huh?
I know.

"Iran frees bin Laden son: newspaper"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Aug 2, 2006 BERLIN (Reuters) - Iran has freed a son of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden from house arrest, a German newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Die Welt said the Iranian Revolutionary Guard released Saad bin Laden on July 28 with the aim of sending him to the Syria-Lebanon border. It linked the reported move to the outbreak of war between Israel and Lebanese-based Hizbollah.
"From the Lebanese border, he has the task of building Islamist terror cells and preparing them to fight together with Hizbollah," Die Welt said, quoting intelligence information.
"Apparently Tehran is counting on recruiting Lebanese refugees in Syria for the fight against Israel, using bin Laden's help," it added in a preview of a report to appear in its Thursday edition.
Western intelligence sources have long suspected that Iran is holding a number of al Qaeda figures, possibly including Saad bin Laden and Saif al-Adel, the network's security chief."

OPINION - RUMOR: I thought I read somewhere that Saad is a weaker version of UBL.

Makes one wonder if Saad is wearing a burqa and coming with the women.
Makes one wonder if his dad is wearing barqas these days, too.
Anyway, updates always appreciated.

Officials Beef Up Port of Houston Security

An al-Qaida Trail
Several al-Qaida-linked terrorist suspects have lived in Houston A terrorist threat to Houston is also a major concern for Fred Burton, a former terrorism expert with the Department of State who now works as an analyst for Strategic Forecasting, a risk-assessment firm based in the Texas state capital of Austin.
He says his years of studying al-Qaida and its leader, Osama Bin Laden, give him reason to worry about an attack on Houston and its vital oil and gas industry.
"Bin Laden's goal is the economic devastation of America, and so if you can hit targets that from an economic perspective bring our country down or make it so miserable, that type of venue such as Houston would be a prime target," says Burton.
Burton says there is also evidence that al-Qaida and other terrorists have been in Houston and that it is reasonable to think they might still have people living in the city, perhaps looking for an opportunity to act. He says FBI investigations after the first attack on New York's World Trade Center in 1993 led to Houston.
"Several of the suspects actually lived and safe-havened in Houston and until this day we do not know where. You also have a location that has a very large Muslim population and, for whatever reason, al-Qaida is comfortable with that," says Burton.
