The essay below was originally written in the early Spring of 2001:
With the passing away of LEXX ends an intriguing albeit tawdry experiment in Sci-fantasy. One that breaks with conventions, or should I say cliches of TV sci-fi of the 90's . The politically correct pabulum, the multicultural indoctrination, the BladeRunner motifs, and not the least; the steroid mutated superbabes that can punch the lights out of men, but never get punched back in return !?
How about creating a new sci-fi anthology with none of the puerile baggage of Rod Serling, Rockne Obannon, Michael J. Stracinsky, etc .. It is time to end their reign of un-American cynicism and fatalism !

I have a huge collection of older sci-fi. No one beats Jack Vance. For Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

Anyone have any suggestions of the best of the best of science fiction published within the last few years? Larry Nivin. Draco Tavern is an excellent compendium of some earlier stories with some new stuff. His version of the Star Wars Bar.

Spider Robinson's "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon" series can be fun, specially if you like baaad puns.

I have Lucifer's Hammer, just started reading it, dated but also contemporary ! If you like apocalypse books try "Earth Abides" by George R. Stewart.

And my favorite SF novel of all time? You'll never guess. It's not what you'd expect!
How about "Memoirs of a timelord"

I just read an alternate history where the confederate army was supplied with as many AK-47's as they wanted.

Use the Scientific Method to solve a mystery !
That would work well for someone who likes mystery. Unfortunately, I don't. My ideas center around political and military sf and one of my ideas experiments with science fantasy a bit.

I've read the Harrington series. Pretty good until like very last few books. It just got to where I found it hard to be as interested in it.
I really, really liked Mutineer's Moon, The Armageddon Inheritance, and especially the Starfire series. The Shiva Option might be his best book. I also really enjoyed Path of the Fury: nothing like a little galactic revenge romp.

Jerry has a website of his own - I tired to leave a message on his website to ask why he would star in a series that has such leftwing acrimonious overtones ?
Why why why ??????????????????????????"I...I...I needed the money! I gots bills to pay!!!"

This is also my perception and I think scifi lends itself better to print than film. If it is good Science Fiction once in a while you must close your eyes imagine.
As for writing try to get some copies of Analog, Astounding and Science Fiction and Fantasy. These are genuinely from the golden Age.
