Cynthia McKinney Missing In Action

Rep. Cynthia McKinney was a no-show this week in the U.S. House, as WSB Washington Correspondent Jamie Dupree reports that the Georgia Democrat missed all four days of legislative business and every vote on the House floor as well.

McKinney's office offered no comment as to why the Congresswoman did not return to Washington after Tuesday's primary election, where she was forced into an August 8th runoff against Hank Johnson.

Also left unanswered Thursday night was whether McKinney would be back at the U.S. Capitol next week. The House has one more week of work before a scheduled August break.

McKinney missed 19 votes over four days on the House floor, including an attempted override of President Bush's veto of a bill dealing with embryonic stem cell research, a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage and a bill designed to prevent federal courts from ruling on the constitutionality of the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Georgia Democrat has missed nearly 11 percent of the 393 recorded votes in the U.S. House so far in 2006.

According to the Congressional Record, McKinney did have official permission to miss votes on Monday and Tuesday of this week, what is known as a "Leave of Absence." There was no notice of any request being granted for Wednesday's session of the House.

So how many posters on this thread will blame her constituents, even though they voted her out in her 2002 primary?

What, like they won't vote her out again?!

She only got back in because the woman who beat her was given bad political advice in 2004...to run for Senate instead of for re-election to that House seat.

Sigh...

If you are referring to "The Little Rascals", I don't believe it. Any original cast member would have to be in their nineties, by now, or long-since dead. I doubt seriously any of them have school-aged chirren.

"Respect,it would seem,is just one of many words that Kerry,a Yale Law School graduate,is unable to define...or experience."

Hold on there, take that back! Kerry did *not* attend Yale Law School; he attended Yale as an undergrad and went to lawschool at Boston College. YLS has had its fair share of embarrassing alumni (such as Bill and Hillary Clinton), but John Kerry is not one of them.

You refer of course to the concept of CPT or Colored People's Time.
Some historians claim this tendency originates from slavery when for obvious reasons blacks had no motivation for being on time.
Since I work or have worked in predominately black schools,I believe one of the reasons,if not the main reason, for chronic tardiness is the fact that black and white administrators and faculty actively enable this kind of behavior.
With the black ones, its"thats just how we are as a people"and with the white ones its,"thats just how black kids are so its all good".
The criminal aspect of all this enabling is that on many jobs being late just a few times can get you fired.I emphasize that reality in my classes but little good it does.
When I went to school in whitebread suburbia,if you were late more than two minutes or so you would spend the rest of the day in the VP's office and your folks would get a call regarding the lateness.
Now its a huge joke.Kids walk into class up to a half hour late and you must accept them with no consequences exacted.

I stand corrected. I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I'm glad you can vote.

I was reading Neal Boortz's 'Nealz Nuze' today, and he seems to think there is a case to be made in keeping Cynthia in office. http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html

The subject we speak of can be measured scientifically, but do so would be "racist".
