In Spain, anti-Semitism is new leftist trend

Spanish Jews knew there were hard times ahead. Prime Minister Zapatero has not disappointed them

Keen on populist tirades against the United States "Dickhead Bush" and "Ketchup Queen Kerry", his whole campaign did not bring much attention until the moment Al-Qaeda decided to blow up Madrid trains, killing almost 200 people and bringing to an end Spain's membership of the West.

From that moment on, everybody knew nothing would be the same, and Spanish Jews knew there were hard times ahead. Prime Minister Zapatero has not disappointed them.

'Understand Nazis'

Although many experts had foretold of the imminent disappearing of European Jews, nobody expected such a virulent explosion of anti-Semitism in Spain, not even under a Leftist government.

The first signal came on Monday, 5 December, when during a dinner with the Benarroch family, Zapatero and wife began claiming what Vidal Quadras, member of the European Parliament, described on the radio as "a tirade of anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism".

By the moment the Benarroch couple had left the table to express their regrets, Zapatero was explaining his lack of surprise about the Holocaust: according to the people present, Zapatero claimed to understand the Nazis.

What about Hizbullah?

Closing Hizbullah TV was another mission impossible for the man who understands the Nazis. It took more than a year to definitely close the channel connection to the Hispasat satellite, siphoning Latin America with more than a year of hate and Islamist propaganda.

In a country with the most anti-Catholic government in its whole history but with a multicultural obsession for Islam, A-Manar TV was part of the 'freedom of press.'

The recent clashes with Hizbullah, however, have promoted the longest and hardest diatribes against Israel, forcing Zapatero to loose a cover for what it was long known in Spanish politics: His hate towards Israel, Jews and Zionism.

In the third day of such rants, before a gathering of the Socialist Youth Movement and a day before a demonstration against Israel, Zapatero showed at last his true colours: At the closing of the meeting he let the teenagers take pictures of him wearing a Palestinian kaffiyah.

Although according to Zapatero, Hizbullah and Israel are the same thing, he offers no words of condemnation for the Party of Allah, spending 100 percent of the time explaining, in a rather twisted way, that Israel should let Hizbullah kill Israelis.

Much of the theory belongs to controversial Spanish FM Miguel Angel Moratinos. EU envoy to the Middle East before and sinking in rumours of links to Hamas long before he left, Moratinos arrived to the foreign ministry cleaning the Elcano Institute up, firing the most prestigious experts and bringing in a group of friends of the oppression theory.

Since then, amid support for Castro and Chavez and mysterious support to Bolivia in order to bring Evo Morales to power, the Spanish FM has proved he has nothing to envy in terms of anti-Americanism, but nobody ever expected an explosion of anti-Semitism in Spain this big. It seems once more that the Jews are the canary in the mine, and the United States should take note.

Jews pay the price

The commotion caused in the Spanish Jewish community seems to be huge, especially taking in count that after some months of anxiety after his election, some Jews were feeling somewhat safe in Spain. Not anymore.

Some people were trying to alert the international community about what was boiling in Spain, but neither the OSCE nor the EUMC ever listened, preferring contacts with anti-Israeli NGOs based on the idea that anti-Semitism has to do with Arabs. Now the Spanish Jews are to pay the price for the international community's inaction, once more.

If the United States does not want to see the American embassy in Madrid full of Jews fleeing Spain, President Bush will do well in isolating Spain in the international arena while pressing, and asking European members to press, the new Socialist government of Spain. The American Rep's belonging to Moratino's Caucus of Friends of Spain should be reminded its elections time too.

The Sepharad story is clearly over, but nobody expected it would be by accident. If you are thinking about visiting Spain, think it twice. You may not leave easily.

I was in Spain in summer '03 when Aznar handed the PP leadership to Rajoy. My impression was like yours, nice guy, but very bland.

Talking with friends here in the US with close ties to Spain, it seems every region has their tales of woe. A friend was accosted by a group of Moroccans in downtown Madrid a few months back. She said that had it not been for a well-dressed gentleman with a police whistle, at minimum she would have been robbed.

My experience in Seville in '03 and '05 is there are a lot of N African refugees there, but they are mostly the pest type. Street vendors, beggars, etc.

Obviously, what the country needs is a charasmatic conservative who can recapture the folks who formerly supported Aznar. Rajoy needs to become more exciting (for lack of a better term) if he is going to stand a chance. If conservatives do regain the majority, it will take years to haul out the ZP trash!

Cheers, and thanks for your response!

Did you hear Moratino's reply when he was told by a member of the spanish-jewish community that the archdhimmi Zapatero's remarks were antisemetic, and I quote:

"Let this be the last time you publicly denounce and condemn and express yourself saying a Spanish government is antisemitic," Moratinos said.

Who does this guy think he is? Hitler?

I agree. He has done major damage to Spain, reviving the "dos Españas" theory of one conservative Spain - BAAAAD - and one "progre" ("progressivist," aka raving leftist) Spain - GOOOOD, and grovelling at the feet of ETA terrorists and any passing Muslim he can find. Not to mention his special trips to worship at the shrine of Fidel and Hugo.

Incidentally, didn't big bad Francisco Franco help the Jews during WWII? He was part Jewish; a fact that was kept hidden from Hitler.

I remember being dubious of the Guardia Civil and the whole idea of living in Franco's Espana for a year in the early 70s. He certainly didn't have much effect on the daily lives of the folk on the street - of course by all accounts he was none too healthy at the time. As it turned out, another classmate and I took the bus the wrong direction in Valencia, ending up totally lost at the end of the line. Neither of us was quite fluent in Spanish, it being our second week in the country. One of the Guardia Civil soldiers approached us and between his extremely limited English which he seemed to be enjoying immensely and our first-year college Spanish we managed to find the way back to our piso. Suddenly I wasn't afraid of them anymore.

There was a whole group of Arab students, all studying medicine at the Universidad de Valencia - now THEY were scary. All liked to target American women on the streets - it WAS the 70s - looking for a little action. Whether they were making it up or not I'll never know, but most claimed ties to Black September. Also scary is that almost every one of them we met wanted to move to the U.S.

How times have changed since the Moros were thrown out of the country the first time. One of the most interesting sights I remember there was the huge mosque that had been taken over with a large Catholic cathedral constructed smack in the middle of it.

It is believed that Franco actually was jewish.

The surname Bahamonde (his mother's) is a Spanish Jewish name. Franco quietly let Jews back into Spain and allowed them to reopen a Synagogue in the late 50's.

Zappy was especially repugnant when he bombastically claimed that Al-Queerda had "nothing to do with Iraq," when he refused to stand or show any respect for the US flag in a parade in Spain, and his POS defense minister arrogantly stated that "Spain bows before no one (meaning the US), when Spain has just pulled it's forces out of Iraq, in response to the terrorist bombings in Madrid.

Zappy is a worthless, leftist POS who, like most liberals, are "tough" when there is no fear of retribution.

I'd say it is time for the Jews in Spain to depart and head for Israel.

Not much new here. No rabid muslim gangs running through the streets, though the left (and some on the "right" are out of their minds as usual). The protests didn't attracxt the attention that the organizers wanted which was a good thing but i'm sure they'll try again next week before they all go on their union mandated vacations. Most of the crowd I hang with (and it's a diverse one) and business associates are quite pro-Israel. Someone last night just told me they were behind "what my people are doing to the terrorists". Shortly after that I saw some police questioning a group of young arabs hanging in a park after some pro-islam love fest concert that had been going on.
I'll post if anything interesting goes on.
for those of you that think we're all socialist idiots here check out:

If you understand Spanish. BTW don't let the posters communist dictator names scare you away. Most of the commentary is conservative. And if you see this today (Sunday) and want to be sick, scroll down til you see the TV screens and watch the video of the Madrid protests. The last one especially where a group of morons chant at a pro-Israel sign holder.
Makes me sad, but it makes me happy I'll be able to chant anti-terrorist slogans at the next rally and not get arrested....or maybe I will.

Very interesting website! Thanks!

Those videos were certainly - er, illuminating.

Personally, I don't think everybody in Spain is a socialist idiot. That title belongs to the government, unfortunately, and everybody else has got to grit their teeth and live with it, I guess!

As you know we've got a pretty ingrained lazy useless socialist mentality here. Some oldtimers I talk to even blame these ease with which the socialists took over the sheep on Franco. They say that people learned to never say anything or complain after the war and it just sort of became socialism after franco died. But things are changing a little, lots of people I know are anti-socialism and very pro freedom and capitalism. It will take a long long time though. The herd mentality is hard to break. P.S. I had a disturbing revalation while watching a protest the other day in the center of barcelona put on by one of the unions protesting ...something. Anyway, did you ever notice how all protests here (check out the videos I mentioned too) always disolve into the chanting of some moronic football type chant wither a variation of ba ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba BA, BA BA or Baaaaaaaaa ba ba BA (the common HI-JO de PU-TA chant)? IT's so creepy and collectivist
