Cape man buoys theory missile downed jet By Joe Dwinell
A Bay State physicist is taking on the National Transportation Safety Board in federal court in Boston to help bolster his theory a missile is to blame for taking down TWA Flight 800 a decade ago.
I dont want this 10-year anniversary to go by without paying attention to this plausible theory, said Tom Stalcup, a Falmouth resident who holds a doctorate in physics and heads up the Flight 800 Independent Researchers Organization.
Flight 800 exploded and crashed in the sea south of Long Island, N.Y., at 3 p.m. on July 17, 1996.
Stalcups group, linked mostly by the Internet, has filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Boston seeking documents relating to the crash, including a wreckage item that exited the planes airframe at apparent supersonic speeds.
Stalcup alleges the Navy recovered this smoking gun wreckage.
Federal officials say the crash was an accident - not a missile strike from a Navy exercise or anything else
I'm talking about what they said to Air Traffic Control seconds after the 747 exploded.
TWA 800: TIMELINE AND LOCATION OF MAJOR EVENTS8:31:47 explosion of Massive Fireball at 5500-7500 feet.
8:31:55-8:31:57 splashdown.
Ummm...that was my point.
And I was not the tin foil adorned one that said that.
Yes Jim, he really is dead.
Oh, Jim - he is still really dead.
A fireball's a fireball. The plane was in range of a Stinger and terrorists in Iran and Afghanistan had stingers. Did, for the first time in history a pair of chaffed wires ignite fumes in the center fuel tank? It's possible. Would it be possible to tell that form that wreckage? Maybe, but that would be really difficult. Could you deduce it by inspecting other 747s and showing the problem in them? Yes. Have they ever done that? Not to my limited knowledge but it would go along way toward convincing me it was the cause.

It doesn't say when the co-pilot reported what he saw.
I've heard the ATC tapes and no one mentions anything like that.
The Congressional Research Service Study:REPORT FOR CONGRESS: Protecting Airliners From Terrorist Missiles PDF said that the most vulnerable aircraft are those that take off over water and should have maritime craft patrolling the water.
And:
Northrup-Grumman Protecting Commercial Aircraft From MANPADS PDF presentation.
And:
I'm not even talking about top-secret military operations. Tom Clancy's novel The Hunt for Red October is supposedly based on a true story -- though nobody has ever confirmed or denied it. How does a Soviet submarine defect to the U.S. -- with the assistance of any number of U.S. military personnel -- without anyone ever hearing about it in public?
I've said for a long time that if the incident back in the 1980s in which the USS Vincennes accidentally shot down an Iranian airliner had involved a U.S. aircraft instead of a foreign one, it would have been attributed to some other cause and we never would have heard anything about the real story.
Steponallofus said it was shot down on his show. He was in the WH when it happened and they said they didn't want a terrorist attack at that time. They then came up with the fuel tank explosion. Who knows?

We have no idea when this co-pilot reported what he saw or to whom.
Thanks for theat:
"On May 11, 1990, a Boeing 737-300 suffered an explosion in the center fuel tank in Ninoy Aquino International Airport, in Manila while preparing for takeoff. The fire and smoke engulfed the aircraft before it could be completely evacuated. "
So, the problem was known about since 1990 and nothing was done to inspect and retrofit aircraft with the same configuration? That's hard to believe....
bump for later
"I also remember the ridicule, abuse and threats some Americans endured for years until some truth about Ruby Ridge and Waco was finally exposed."
well put.
There was a lot of that rumored to have gone on. Foreign news services giving out Oswald's bio and casting him as a suspect before he had even been picked up and booked for Tippit's murder in Dallas.
The aircraft may have been flying at 14,000 feet, and it may have been within the range of a Stinger anti-aircraft missile . . . but that means absolutely nothing.
What's more important is that an eastbound flight out of JFK would not have been flying at 14,000 feet under normal circumstances. It would usually be at 16,000-17,000 feet at that point in its eastbound flight, but Flight 800 was ordered to level off at around 14,000 feet to make way for a northbound US Air flight into Providence, Rhode Island that was behind schedule that night. A terrorist on the ground/water below could not possibly have foreseen this, which is why he would clearly have attempted such an attack from a point much further west where aircraft flying overhead would usually be much lower than they are at the point where Flight 800 went down.
No terrorist could have planted explosives in the Murrah building without government complicity. Think about it.
