A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

On July 9th 1932 a remarkable man was born, our 21st Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. Happy Birthday Secretary Donald Rumsfeld!
I attempted a biography thread. The thread would be very long. What an incredible life Rummy has lead. Here are some highlights of his life.
* 1932 Donald Henry Rumsfeld born in Chicago, Illinois * 1954 Graduates from Princeton, joins the Navy * 1957 Early years in Washington -- in private sector * 1962 Runs for Congress (thought to have the odd stacked against him, Donald Rumsfeld wins in a landslide) * Such no-nonsense bluntness is also popular in his conservative Midwestern district, and Rumsfeld is re-elected to Congress in 1964, 1966 and 1968. * 1968 Rumsfeld for a position in a new Republican administration by volunteering for Richard M. Nixon's presidential campaign. * 1969 Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity * 1971 White House Adviser * 1972 Ambassador to NATO * 1974 Chief of Staff to Ford * 1975 - 1977 The youngest Secretary of Defense in history * In 1977, Mr. Rumsfeld was awarded the nation's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. * 1977 Rumsfeld leaves government for private business * 1983 Reagan names Rumsfeld his "Personal Representative to the Middle East * 1985 - 1988 A career in private business * 1990 - 2000 Chairman of the board mid- to late 1990s, Rumsfeld joins several influential government boards and commissions, gradually working his way back into government. * 1995 - 1996 Adviser to the Dole presidential campaign * 1997 The Rumsfeld Commission - In 1997, Congress creates a commission to investigate U.S. intelligence reports concerning ballistic missile threats and names Don Rumsfeld its chairman. * 1999 - 2000 The George W. Bush campaign and "missile defense"While working as a foreign policy adviser to the Bush campaign, Rumsfeld devotes his attention to a single issue: missile defense. * 2001 Secretary of Defense Mr. Rumsfeld has been awarded 11 honorary degrees.

Good Morning!
Birthday and every day wishes to FR Finest Sec Rumsfeld.
What is it that we admire about the soldier? It is certainly not that he goes into battle; what we admire about the soldier is that he has the power of losing his own life for the life of a larger cause; that he holds his personal suffering of no account; that he flings down on the gage of battle his all, and says, I will stand or fight with this cause. That, it seems to me, is the glorious thing we most admire. Jane Addams, Washingtons Birthday Address-1903
Saluting the glorious in you!

A Time For Compassion

READ:
Luke 23:26-34Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. Luke 23:34
In 2002, I was in Jakarta, Indonesia, to teach a 2-night Bible conference. The first night, I went early to the host church, and the pastor asked if he could show me around the building. It was impressive in its beauty.
Then the pastor took me to the lower assembly hall. At the front of the hall was a pulpit and a communion table. Behind it was a plain concrete wall on which hung a wooden cross. Below it were some words in the national language of Indonesia. I asked him what the inscription said, and he surprised me by quoting Christs words from the cross: Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
I asked if it was there for a particular reason, and he said that several years earlier there had been serious rioting in the city, and 21 churches were burned to the ground in one day. That wall was all that remained of their former facilitythe first of the churches to be torched.
The wall and the verse formed a reminder of the compassion of Christ which He showed on the cross, and that became the churchs message to their city. Revenge and bitterness will never be healing responses to the hatred and rage of a lost world. But the compassion of Christ is, just as it was 2,000 years ago. Bill Crowder
Give me a heart sympathetic and tender;
Jesus, like Thine, Jesus, like Thine,
Touched by the needs that are surging around me,
And filled with compassion divine. Anon.
