The first 3 paragraphs seems to give one a feel for the population of "Americans" caught in Lebanon.

Most of them are Shiite Muslims, many of whom hold dual U.S. and Lebanese citizenship. Many are anchor babies born here to Muslims in the U.S. illegally. Some are illegal aliens who became citizens through rubber-stamping Citizenship and Immigration Services (and its INS predecessor) coupled with political pressure by spineless politicians.

Of the 25,000 American citizens and green-card holders in Lebanon, at least 7,000 are from Dearborn, Michigan, the heart of Islamic America, and especially Shia Islam. These 7,000 are mostly Shi'ite Muslims who openly and strongly support Hezbollah. Ditto for many of the rest of the 25,000 that are there.

Many of the 7,000 plus Detroiters in Lebanon are active in Dearborn's Bint Jbeil cultural center (the Lebanese American Heritage Club also features mostly Hezbollah fans). Bint Jbeil is a Hezbollah-dominated city in the South of Lebanon, a frequent destination of Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, who is very at home there. Bint Jbeil is a frequent source of shellings on Northern Israel.

I heard him - but did not make much of it. These guest/consultants have to criticize in order to get some air time and maintain some credibility.

Does cSpan 2 replay his press conferences online?

Yes. Wait a bit and go to the C-Span site. Look for the archived videos over to the right.

That's got me worried too Allegra. If Iran gets involved they are definately going to try to roll through Iraq to "get to Syria's aid".

Be careful over there.

Yes. He said THAT. He knows better...but he also knows how to manipulate the media.

And the media knows how the manipulate the masses.

They've done an exemplary job on that regarding Iraq.

I despise them.

"Thank you for the Hezbollah view, Helen".

Great Tony Snow comment. He's way ahead of all the media. And Helen is still that crazy old aunt in the attic.

I thought so. Hezbollah has pulled some surprises, though.

I still believe that if Syria and Iran stay out of it, Israel can prevail. But it's all contingent on keeping those two countries out.

Because of the shiftings, there is space for some of these players to tell Hezbollah, they are fools and wrong. The war is still against radical Islam, but Israel is not the end all and be all of what global islamofascism is after. Its just a useful rallying tool. Some of nations dealing with this have other fish they would rather fry right this minute.

I said on another thread that the two real wild cards in this are Iran and Pakistan. It appears that Musharaff's control of the Pakistani government is not that good, and that Pakistani intelligence was involved with the bombings in India. A nuclear war between India and Pakistan is much closer than a similar between Iran and anyone else. Neither country is directly involved in the Israeli war.

The real interesting thing is if India did go to war with Pakistan, we would be in a situation were we might have to deal with two allies attacking each other.

So they are basically saying they have chemical weapons, and hinting at nuclear.

It's pretty much "business as usual" here right now. We're all watching the situation closely, but that's about it. There is a little tension in the air, but not even like the tension in April or November of '04 when hostilities here ramped up real high.

Not yet, anyway.
