I hope we don't try to pull Israel back; if they stop before it's finished, we'll just be right back to where we were.

I fear if we pull Israel back, we'll be further behind.

I developed a love of history from some very good teachers back when. I am finding todays' schools don't focus so much on it so I fill in for my kids. Right now I've got maps up on the wall that I printed from this thread and the kids probably know more about what is going on than any adults in my neighborhood.

The BLACK DEATH..."it's the end of the world/the rapture....the 100 years war, the invasions of the Muslim into Jerusalem, the CRUSADES, the Muslim take over of most of Spain, WW I, WW II, you have a hangnail? IT'S THE END OF THE WORKD!

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!

I don't think they are coordinated enough to do it in unison...but the little bits add up sometimes..even if it's more random. Attrition.

Historic Galilee sites hit by rocket attacks -18/07/06

Galilee sites where Jesus lived and worked have been hit by Hezbollah rocket fire as fighting deepened between Israel and the militant movement which is based in Lebanon – writes Michele Green for Ecumenical News International.

Hezbollah rockets have hit targets near Nazareth, Jesus' childhood home town, as well as Tiberias and the banks of the Sea of Galilee in Israel.

"I sat on a bench facing the Sea of Galilee with my grandson and son and heard two fall and a few seconds later we heard a great explosion and we understood that it had hit close by," the former mayor of Tiberias, Asher Yaish, told Israel's Channel One Television on after a recent rocket strike.

World Christian leaders including Pope Benedict XVI and the Rev Samuel Kobia, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, have expressed alarm at the new violence in northern Israel and in Lebanon. They have strongly urged all parties to immediately stop hostile acts.

The Pope noted on 16 July "the many victims among the civilian population". The roots of the conflict, he said, were found in "violations of rights and of justice". He urged both sides to seek resolution of those problems through negotiations. "No positive results can be achieved" through the cycle of attacks and reprisals, said Benedict.

Kobia declared that "the use of force and the harsh rhetoric of war are driving the new government of Israel and its neighbouring states deeper into a chasm of killings and destruction, and further away from the prospect of peace."

Nearly 200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, and 24 Israelis have been killed in six days of fighting triggered by rocket attacks and the capture of two Israel soldiers by Hezbollah that was followed by Israeli aerial bombardments of the militant group's strongholds. Attacks were also launched on Lebanese infrastructure in the southern suburbs of Beirut and southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has since attacked Haifa with rockets.

Israel authorities said a grandmother and her grandson eating the traditional Friday night Sabbath meal were killed by a rocket that hit their home by Mount Meron, a Jewish holy site near the Galilee town of Safed.

It was the first time that Tiberias, 32 kilometres from the Lebanese border, has been targeted by Hezbollah which Israel says has recently been armed by Iran and Syria with longer range rockets capable of reaching the lower Galilee and even Tel Aviv.

But I am having hot flashes. One minute I'm fine, the next, hot all over.

I understand ceramic floors are a Godsend for that. I had a neighbor who laid on hers for nearly a whole summer.

You need to post that to rebel_yell...he should be relieved.

I just heard Greg Palkot saying that 5 ships with helicopters are heading that way.

He mentioned some of the people won't have passports...why would someone NOT bring their passport with them?? It isn't like it takes a suitcase...

THAT is scary, no passport...more terrorists sneaking into the US??

Hizb'allah presses 'Palestinians' to go on the attack

Wants to divert Israeli forces from Lebanon

By Ryan Jones
July 19, 2006

Fearing an IDF invasion of Lebanon, Hizb'allah is pressing the Palestinian Arabs to go on the offensive against Israel and divert Israeli forces away from its northern border, reported Middle East Newsline Tuesday.

According to "Palestinian" sources, Hizb'allah, with the approval of "Palestinian" terrorist commanders in Damascus, has ordered Hamas and Islamic Jihad to intensify rocket and "suicide" bombing attacks against Israel.

"The aim is to divert Israel's attention away from Lebanon and prevent a ground attack," said one source.

Israeli security forces thwarted a "suicide" bomb attack in Jerusalem on Monday, and more than 20 Kassam and other rockets have been fired from Gaza over the past 24 hours.

On Tuesday, a Hamas terrorist attempted to abduct a female IDF soldier in southern Israel. The soldier managed to fight off her attacker long enough for her comrades to her aid and apprehend the assailant.

Don't see a John Batchelor thread tonight. We can listen and comment on this thread because it is mostly all about the Middle East anyway.

Hook'em young!

I grew up being a news junkie because news was important to my dad, and also his mom...Grandma always (even today) has a copy of Time as her bathroom reading...and we always watched the evening news. For a long time you could watch ABC evening news a half an hour before the other two...so we would watch ABC then turn to NBC, and then watch the local. By the time I was 8, I would listen to election returns on the radio in my room, even though I didn't know much about who was running. I learned about the troubles in Ireland on a news magazine called First Tuesdays. I went through the wondrously weird 1966 - 1968 reading News Week, Life, Post and Saturday Review.

Got hooked young, but unfortunately, I was never really able to hook the young people I most wanted to, like my nieces or my youngest stepson...his brother, though, is at least partially hooked. Maybe I was able to plant a seed or two...
