Hook'em young!
I grew up being a news junkie because news was important to my dad, and also his mom...Grandma always (even today) has a copy of Time as her bathroom reading...and we always watched the evening news. For a long time you could watch ABC evening news a half an hour before the other two...so we would watch ABC then turn to NBC, and then watch the local. By the time I was 8, I would listen to election returns on the radio in my room, even though I didn't know much about who was running. I learned about the troubles in Ireland on a news magazine called First Tuesdays. I went through the wondrously weird 1966 - 1968 reading News Week, Life, Post and Saturday Review.
Got hooked young, but unfortunately, I was never really able to hook the young people I most wanted to, like my nieces or my youngest stepson...his brother, though, is at least partially hooked. Maybe I was able to plant a seed or two...
I consider it my mission. Not only current events, history, but a love of country and the people who fight and have fought for it.
You may have planted a seed or two that has not been realized yet in the others. Watch and see.
Amazing that you became a news junkie at such a young age - you are light years ahead of me in that area. I can just see you as a child trying to comprehend what many adults didn't even try. Thanks for sharing.
I had a few adults in my life who planted that seed. It's a fine thing you've done. The boy will appreciate it all his life.
