McCain-Bush Ticket Possible in 2008?
NewsMax ^ | 11 July 2006

Posted on 07/10/2006 7:40:34 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has frequently said he won't run for president in 2008, but he's never ruled out being on the ticket as someone's running mate.

And he didn't Monday when asked about teaming up with Arizona Sen. John McCain as Republicans hope to come up with a ticket to keep the White House - now occupied by Bush's older brother, President George W. Bush.

"I like Sen. McCain. I think he's a good guy," Bush told reporters after returning from a holiday in Maine with his family.

Any potential GOP nominee would covet the 27 electoral votes in Florida where Bush enjoys a high job approval rating among voters as he nears the end of his second term.

It was the 25 electoral votes Florida held in 2000 that sent the current president into office - by a scant 537-vote margin of more than 6 million cast in the state.

Bush, 53, would also provide some age balance on such a ticket. McCain turns 70 next month.

When prodded about the likelihood of a McCain-Bush ticket, Bush hedged just slightly.

"There's all sorts of time to worry about the 2008 election," he said.

Bush is prohibited from seeking a third consecutive term as governor by Florida law.

Your comparison is absurd. McCain is a patriot and Pro-life whatever else he is.

I don't think there is a RINO alive that I wouldn't vote for if the Democrat opponent is Hillary or Kerry or any other crazy lefty.

I would hold my nose but I would cast it for the GOP.

Would we elect a 72 yr old McCain? Lol what a world, what a world.

I thought about McCain's age too. How's this for a theory: Jeb runs as McCain's veep in '08 and if McCain gets elected he only serves one term and Jeb runs for President in 2012.

"Look at the candidates they have given us the last 25 years or more -- hardly any of them were worth a dime."

You are including Reagan in your statement?

For Jeb to run on a McCain ticket, McCain would have to win the primary nomination.

I don't see that happening.

The real Republican candidates should start testing the waters after the midterm elections, but I don't think McCain will be one of the frontrunner's once we approach the primaries.

I would agree except I see the "base" as being hopelessly confused and split between three or four marginal candidates.
It is hard to see anyone but Guiliani stopping McCain and would bet on a Guiliani/Allen ticket as as likely as any other.

The MSM is sure pushing for Rudy, Romney and or McCain.

Because they've seen that the country is pretty closely divided and they want the choices to be either a liberal "Republican" or a far left liberal who claims to be a centrist.

but McCain has a conscience

My position in the County Republican Party requires me to be present when McCain is in town for an event. If, he does have a concience, it is so overshadowed by his ego, that it is NOT visable.

That said, if he is the nominee in 08, I will do the same thing I did in 04 when he ran for re-election, vote Libertarian.

That's another losing ticket and I doubt that Rudy can win the primary. And it isn't that I think that Rudy wasn't a very good mayor; I do, but there are a lot of folks who will NEVER vote for him in the primary; let alone as the presidential candidate.

And .. since loyalty is a major trait of the Bush family .. I don't see Jeb ever aligning himself with McCain over anything - after the way McCain has treated big brother.

From what I've heard Jeb is also more conservative than W, so it seems unlikely that he would want to team up with McCain, though he might decide it's his civic duty to do so it the Democratic opponent is bad enough.

I really can't see McCain having a chance of getting nominated, so it seems like pointless conjecture anyway.

If it came down between Hillary Rotten and John McCain, I would get out of bed on election day and be ready to vote for John McCain by 6am.

The financial syndicates that control our political system are well aware of that. Therefore they give us a choice of warmed over, rotten crap bags and watch us run for the polls to vote against someone. What a foul joke our political process has become. It is all a charade to fool so many into thinking they have a functioning democracy.

Unfortunately, I don't think that this country will soon vote for a Mexican First Lady.

wow, that would be hard to vote against or even stay home. I really like Jeb.

You need to search some Florida newspapers and learn about the crime and corruption swirling around a number of Jeb's high level appointments. He has deny-ability for now, but the fuse is trailing in his direction, and and the dirt diggers in a major campaign could possibly unearth some shockers.

Yeh...and if Jeb couldn't protect Terri Schiavo from the baldy little swamp judge Greer how can we expect him to protect the nation. Want men of conviction and guts.

Well .. Katherine was never in Jeb Bush's corner. In case nobody's ever revealed that to you. So there is no loyalty to be lost here - get it?

Katherine DID HER JOB in 2000. No loyalty is owed for that.

"If it came down between Hillary Rotten and John McCain, I would get out of bed on election day and be ready to vote for John McCain by 6am."

John McCain at the front of any ticket ensures it's not one I'll vote for, no matter who's filling the position of 'warm bucket of piss.' If it came down to that, I would vote third party confidently and proudly, and not lose a wink of sleep over it.

The MSM is sure pushing for Rudy, Romney and or McCain. WHY?

Because these are all RINO's, and the MSM fears Conservatives like Dracula fears the sunlight.
