Louisiana has joined 21 other states in banning Internet hunting, the practice of using a mouse click to kill animals on a distant game farm.
The cyber-shooting idea was the brainchild of Texan John Lockwood, who started the web site Live-Shot.com.
The idea was this: Hunters sign up on the web site and pay some $1,500 or more. They schedule a session, then log on at their appointed time to watch a feeding station on the computer screen. The animal that was orderedfrom wild hogs to antelopeis in the area, and when it approaches the food, the hunter moves on-screen crosshairs into place. A click of the mouse fires a rifle to kill the animal.
The armchair hunter's trophy animal would then be mounted and shipped for display.
Texas outlawed the practice last year.
Humane Society executive vice president Michael Markarian was pleased with the decision in Louisiana.
"Responsible hunters know there's no sport in shooting an animal remotely while lying in bed and wearing camouflage pajamas," Markarian said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the game farm's web site now says hunters must come to the farm, where they "can now offer a unique hunting opportunity for disabled and handicapped hunters, as well as others, who may need the assistance of our system while hunting."
Personally, I have no problem with slaughtering livestock for consumption. I have been raising and slaughtering livestock my entire life. But it ain't hunting.
Anyone who thinks this is hunting needs to save his money and stick to video games.
Real hunters hunt for food.
Fake hunters think it's a sport.
:)
The future of war, oh wait....
.....this is what predators do now.
Why not?
It depends. There many places where bait hunting is the only practical method. Where the terrain is thick, dry mesquite, you can't see ten feet and the critters can hear you coming a quarter mile away, no matter how "manly" you are you aren't going to go in and sneak up on one. You have to draw them out of the brush to shoot them. Also there are some people who simply aren't physically able to hike for miles. I'm happy to see them able to still participate in the sport withing their abilities.
IMNHO most arguments against a particular hunting method simply serve to divide hunters and help the anti-hunting types further their agenda. Be it hunting mountain lions or bears, trapping, using dogs, baiting, high fences, or whatever, if they can isolate a part of the hunting community they can ban it piecemeal. The old divide and conquer.
That's about the weakest excuse I've heard.
I'm "time constrained," so I use a feeder.
Feeders are for democrats, communists and losers.
When I go for game fish, I chum.
Is chumming for democrats, communists and losers?
How is this situation any different than buying steak at a store?
Essentially all the folks on this site are paying for is the right to see the meat or trophy they order killed. Sure, it may seem twisted to you, but to the folks who want hunting banned, YOU seem twisted.
You're falling right into the holier-than-thou trap the left wants you to. If they can ban this type of hunting, then they can ban ANY type of hunting.
I had a 75 head herd listing on my site late summer 2005.
Some bought a head and just wanted the meat shipped.
Some bought heads and had the meat donated to a few soup kitchens that fed approximately 2,000 hurricane victims.
Some that bought heads and had the meat donated to the soup kitchen requested the caps and pelts.
Some bought heads to start their own herd.
There is no difference between Live-Shot and buying animals for food.
bump to your post.

I don't buy steak at a store. Actually you fell into the trap about not knowing anything about me and putting your foot in your mouth. Does it taste kind of like chicken?
Hey, horse's ass, I asked:
"How is this situation any different than buying steak at a store?"
Who said YOU buy steak at a store? If I fell into any trap, it was in assuming you can read.
In fairness, I will retract the statement that you don't know anything about me. That may or may not be true and will certainly depend on whether you have read my comments on this site or listened to me on the radio.
"...but to the folks who want hunting banned, YOU seem twisted."
Had you known a little more about me, you would have realized that the statement that I seem twisted to them is simply illogical. You indeed fell into the trap of apparently not knowing anything about me on this issue. I haven't eaten meat since 1991. I seriously doubt that those who want hunting banned would believe I am twisted. They might not be pleased that I wouldn't join a protest to ban hunting, but they would clearly not think I was twisted. That would be foolish. I have neither condemned those who hunt for food or sport or those who eat meat. My choice simply works for me.
The horse's ass ad hominem was a nice touch. It is an excellent debating technique, somewhat like being the first to accuse the other of being a Nazi. That's usually a winner.
I guess I will begin my reading lessons on Monday. I fell into the trap of assuming a Liberatarian with a capital "L" possesses either logic or class. I apologize for that assumption.
