A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

No, not Australia, but the island of New Guinea. It is east of the Wallace line and we have much of the same flora and fauna as Australia. We have tree kangaroos, some dingoes, cuscus and other oddities like that. Actually, we're in Alabama at the moment. We're moving back to our island (and I'll get to have my Merah back) in about two weeks.

it was a Disney movie. How bad could it be?"In Old Yeller, the dog died. In the Fox and the Hound, the old dog died. Some Disney movies got pretty sad.

How interesting. To actually live among kangaroos! We thoroughly enjoyed our up close and personal encounter with koalas, kangaroos and wallabies at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane a couple years ago. The wallabies were my favorite.
I hope you have a safe and uneventful trip "home" and a wonderful reunion with your Merah.

Old Yeller died??? I don't remember that, but it's been years since I saw that movie. Must have blocked out that little detail. :-(
But, yes, your point is well taken. Some Disney movies are quite sad.

Hey! We were there in September 2003. We were at a missionary conference and that was one of our escape excursions. We really weren't impressed with Lone Pine that much because about halfway through we realized we paid money to see our pets! But that was just us. If we didn't live on New Guinea it would have been more enjoyable.

Yes, Old Yeller was shot because he developed rabies. He got the rabies from defending a family member from another rabid animal. It was terribly sad. It even outranked the death of Bambi's mother in saddness.

Yes, so was Bambi. :-(
I can't imagine Disney making a movie like that for kids/families today, and I can't say that I am unhappy about it either. That's a little too much sadness and 'reality' for me, let alone little kids.

LOL! He probably does. He's one of the smartest dogs I've ever met. Not to mention the sweetest! Well, I sure do believe he is an "angel dog". I am convinced that through His divine guiding hand, events and cirumstances brought Rusty to dutchess to be a comforting companion for her dad. Rusty has been a wonderful blessing to them, as they have been to him. :-)

I just added the series to my queue. I now have something like 60 selections queued up. I think I will move them to the top, otherwise it is going to be years before I work my way down to them. LOL
The reviews on this series are excellent. :-)

Our First Family Outing
Mother likes to keep a cautious eye on all six of us
Keeping us close at hand as to cause a fuss
Though she knows that Kittens will do whatever strikes their fancy
While exploring every shadow and corner of each new room we see
Mother invited us to the Mystery of the Pretty One's Room, seeking to expose
Just what does go on in there once the door is closed?
At first glance, the Room seemed quite feminine in a toned and subtle way
Offering many things and places to poke at and to play
Little Nicole and Alicia were drawn immediate to the plush, long Curtains
Climbing them with style and elan, a gift from Mother, I am certain
Alicia seems enamored with their plush and soft design
While Nicole opts for flowers and a Sunny window sill, savoring and staking out her find
The faraway rug draws Alexander to tunnel and wriggle
A plump little lump that causes all of us to giggle
Hypnotized by the caged bird, Mother wonders who will be the hero?
Of Nero's playful invitation to the bird to have lunch
Mother's money is on the bird, if I were to wager a hunch!
Which leaves Mother, Lorraine and I exploring the Pretty One's Magic Table
With lots of things available to touch and smell and taste
As small and shiny things slide under my paws and tail, they seem but a waste!
Lorraine pushes up to explore more closely the wall, but to no avail
Curiously plucking at a lovely feather in ways that are not chaste
While Mother smiles and schedules another visit to this wondrous place!
