Doctors have their first proof that a man who was barely conscious for nearly 20 years regained speech and movement because his brain spontaneously rewired itself by growing tiny new nerve connections to replace the ones sheared apart in a car crash.
Terry Wallis, 42, is one of the few people known to have recovered so dramatically so long after a serious brain injury. He still needs help eating and cannot walk, but his speech continues to improve and he can count to 25 without interruption.

starve him. he cannot possibly be happy. /sarc (as if I needed to point that out).
We went through this earlier... with the expected results

What are they gonna say, "we screwed up?" -- well, they might say, "Jeb Bush screwed up," if he runs.
It can't be discussed enough:')

I don't think Terri should have had the plug pulled on her.
Nevertheless it would seem to be a valid point of contention that this man's brain cells were still alive but severed, unlike Terri's which had died. How folks judged Terri's "shape" during the debate seemed just too miraculously aligned with what they think should have happened to her, to the point of publishing ridiculous quotes like "I want [to live]."
There should be allowances for:
1) Terri was in terrible shape, but still shouldn't have been starved to death.
2) The Dixie Chicks are a very talented band, but they can go suck eggs for all I care.
And so on. I guess my point is I'm calling BS on anyone but the experts claiming authority to say whether Terri was better than this guy or not.
Just to clarify, I'm not quibbling with the mode of Terri's death. My position is that she should have been given over to the care of her parents.
I watched a program on this guy a few weeks ago....can't remember what show....was he able to be fed by mouth all those years? I know his mom was caring for him at home.
And starve the rest of them until we do.
The article is propagating the falsehood that Terri Schiavo was in "persistent vegetative state". They were in such a hurry to make this statement in the article, right at the beginning.
"Wallis' sudden recovery happened three years ago at a rehabilitation center in Mountain View, Ark., but doctors said the same cannot be hoped for people in a persistent vegetative state, such as Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman who died last year after a fierce right-to- die court battle. Nor do they know how to make others with less serious damage, like Wallis, recover. "
Their statement that it's harder for people with less serious damange to recover is also ridiculous.
They should study and learn from this case to find out how they can help this happen to more people and faster.
Medical news PING
Yes it can. I got your position. How many opinions did you change tonight with all your posts? You attacked Antiguv because he took no position and he wouldn't agree with you.
Thanks for posting. Thanks for the link on another thread. BTTT
That's an interesting question. Perhaps. But it doesn't mean the knowledge was properly used.
Consider: people in the area (I lived there) -- people like landscapers, UPS employees -- people who would have no interest in the case at all were it not kept before them in all the media -- were all of a sudden experts on 'persistent vegetative state' and 'life support,' pitifully parroting the talking points that they were taught like very obedient children, unconsciously perpetuating the myth and building the edifice of deceit wherein the laweres, judges, medical professionals and associated personnel -- those who knew better -- did their evil. One man declared, "her brain is water!" I suppose as groundskeeper of the Hospice, he was qualified to make such an assertion.
The real story here is how effective the media campaign was in allowing evil to strut and snatch from a safe place a defenseless and innocent person, depsite the exhaustive efforts of good people. Evil's weapon was the lies it told over and over, effectively subverting the rule of just law that our republic is equipped to administer. This is a strategy that we cannot afford to ignore.
The people are the government, and when the people are deceived, the government is a tool in the hands of evil.
I suspect these are just code phrases for "If they can't vocally protest or physically resist, their lives aren't worth living anyway. Kill them, plug them in the ground, save some dough, collect the insurance, and open up a hospital bed. Next."
"The people are the government, and when the people are deceived, the government is a tool in the hands of evil."
You have brilliantly expressed something I've been trying to say for some time now. Thanks.
