PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: After an eventful week capped by their visit to Graceland, the President and First Lady spend a quiet Saturday at Camp David. They returned to the White House earlier today.
During her press preview last Thursday of the Official Dinner for the Japanese Prime Minister, Mrs. Bush had some interesting and fun things to say. Here's an excerpt. Go here to read the entire transcript.
Q Mrs. Bush, could talk about the decision to have a state dinner tonight? This has become rare in this administration.MRS. BUSH: Well, I wouldn't say it's really rare. We've hosted nine or 10 state leaders at Camp David. We've hosted at least 10 state leaders, including Prime Minister Koizumi, at the ranch. Those have been opportunities to get to know world leaders in a more relaxed and private setting, especially at the ranch, where it's our own home and they can see what our life is like. We have had a number of state dinners, but this one is not actually a state dinner, because the head of state, of course, would be the Emperor of Japan. But this is an official dinner, just like a state dinner, for a Prime Minister.
And we're thrilled to have the opportunity to host Prime Minister Koizumi. We actually had scheduled a state dinner earlier for him. I don't know if we'd announced it, but we'd scheduled it before he called for the last elections, his last elections.
So anyway, now we're glad to get to have him. And as it turned out, the weather was perfect. We were afraid it would be really too hot for the arrival ceremony in June in Washington, but it was just right.
Q Mrs. Bush, could you talk a little bit about the jukebox that the President presented to the Prime Minister, and his reaction?
MRS. BUSH: Well, we have -- we found a really great jukebox from the '50s -- refurbished, obviously, and filled with 45 songs, including 25 of Elvis Presley's. So it was in the Red Room when we came in from the arrival ceremony this morning. And Prime Minister Koizumi searched the keys and found, "I want you, need you, and love you," and played that first. (Laughter.) So he and the President sang a duet. (Laughter.)
This whole issue is very interesting! It's always amazing to me how people will spend so much time trying to do something dishonest (whether it's committing a crime or something like this) whereas if they'd put their energy and intelligence to GOOD use they could do something "good", or at least positive, and honest.

I haven't seen you here before; glad to "meet" you! I LOVE your tagline!
Good. It sounds like they are sure what they want to do . And fourteen acres will give them a nice a nice place with space around.. And yes, the wind is tiring.
Sweet dreams!
They've done their research! And their land backs up against federal land so no one can ever build near them. They enjoy a garden and flowers, so now they'll have plenty of room for that. They've lived in towns--small ones, but towns nevertheless, for the last 20 years or so.
Is it dry out your way?
We need rain badly.
Really pretty and cool pics today Wolfstar. Thank you for the thread. :)
The surface water here in the Wind River Valley is too alkaline to drink and we get our water in town from a deep well. The people living out of town haul water from the well in town and they have cisterns. The high price of diesel is hurting the people who have to haul their water.
Thanks for the link snugs. He will be in my prayers.
Hi homemom! Glad to "hear" from you. It's hot in S. TX too, (yes we are still here!)
Rain always seems to go around us here, we need some.
LOVE the photos tonight, particularly the "Photo of the Day"!
. . . Also enjoyed your insights concerning FR's resident trolls! [We can expect MUCH MORE "trolling" from the DUmmies and Third Party nuts as we get closer to November! 'Egged on' by various left/right bloggers, they're already hitting talk radio hard!

READER IN CHIEF:
The ultimate Washington reader has eclectic taste.
[President Bush is probably the most well-read president in recent memory, yet the MSM continues to dismiss him as an illiterate rube -- which makes it all the more delicious when our "rube" destroys them at election time!!!

It's been a bit hot out this way too, though not too bad. We could use a little rain though. Here's to help you cool off.
Which lake are your folks close to? I live close to Stockton and sorta close to Lake of the Ozarks and then of course there's Pomme de Terre.
Oh that snow looks good. It is so hot here. Thanks for the picture. President Bush looks so healthy and hearty doesn't he.
He sure does. He's got that lumberjack toughness about him. "Snow? in Texas? Bring it on!"
Wow! I had no idea that stuff like that could be going on. I guess I am naive when it comes to FR. I just think everyone thinks as I do. Guess we can't be too careful, huh!
Thanks for the Dose tonight...Sanity Island is the place to be!
What a fun trip for the VP. About time he had a "good time" trip instead of a serious one. He needed it. That one was perfect. Looks like the NASCAR guys are enjoying having him there, too.
