:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Bin Laden Says Will Take Fight to America
(Full Story)

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden said his group reserved the right to fight the United States on its land and warned Washington and the world community against sending forces to Somalia, according to an Internet audio tape.

"We will fight its (U.S.) soldiers on the land of Somalia ... and we reserve the right to punish it on its land and anywhere possible," said the speaker, who sounded like the Saudi-born militant.

"We warn all of the countries in the world not to respond to America by sending international troops to Somalia," he said of the African nation where Islamists' power is rising.

Outstanding that the federal appeals court upheld the will of the majority of Americans with their ruling pro traditional marriage. If only politicians and wayward judges could comprehend the meaning of "the Will of the People" (without their rationalization that the only "people" they need to please are themselves, their donors, lobbyists, and special interest groups).

Democrat, Republican or Southerner?

Oregon newspaper editorialists tongue-tied about Hezbollah

Snip: What does it take Oregon editors? Are you going to wait until Islamic fascists, who have been engaged in the World War III killing of Americans, Jews and other "infidels", attack your cute little suburban Oregon communities? Wasn't NYC and the 9-11 World Trade Center attack close enough to your homes or your families or your nice little lives to leave a lasting conviction that these terrorist monsters must be eliminated?

Iran TV urges boycott of "Zionist" products

Snip: Iran yesterday launched a major campaign urging consumers to stop buying "Zionist" products, ranging from Coca-Cola and Pepsi soft drinks, Calvin Klein clothing and Nestle food products.

"Pepsi stands for 'Pay Each Penny to Save Israel", viewers in the Islamic republic have been warned in an oft-repeated three-minute infomercial on state television, prompted by Israel's ongoing assault against the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.

Anwar Ibrahim, a possible candidate for UN Secretary-General

Snip: His name has come up repeatedly in international circles, as a moderate Muslim candidate from Asia. But he says he's not actively seeking the post, because he feels that doing so would compromise his freedom to speak out on important international questions.

On the Middle East, for example, Anwar Ibrahim has launched a strongly worded attack on Israel and the United States, as we'll hear shortly.

It's been an extraordinary journey for Anwar Ibrahim since he was released from prison just over a year-and-a-half ago. Surgery has helped him recover from the police beating that crippled him in jail, his old nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohammed is in retirement, and his sodomy charge was overturned.

Muslim group wants Christian leader banned from Canada

Snip: An Islamic advocacy group wants Rev. Franklin Graham barred from entering Canada because of allegedly hateful statements made towards Islam. Graham's spokesman says the Evangelical minister's comments have been "misconstrued" by some Muslims.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations of Canada (CAIR-CAN) claims allowing Graham into Canada would be evidence of a "double standard." British Muslim Riyad ul-Haq was denied entry into Canada in June after being accused of inciting hatred towards Jews, Christians, and other non-Muslims - a violation of Canada's so-called "hate propaganda laws."

Whether they find Mr. Mug at this place or another, eventually he'll be meeting his either maker or his taker - the sooner the better!

Au contraire, Lebanese PM Faoud Siniora is denouncing Israel's defensive actions.

Lebanon PM appeals for urgent aid, cease fire efforts

(snip) Mr Siniora called for an immediate halt to Israel's offensive, vowing to make Israel pay compensation to Lebanon.

"Let me assure you that we shall spare no avenue to make Israel compensate the Lebanese people for the barbaric destruction it has inflicted," he said.

Meanwhile...

US gives Israel a week before ceasefire call

This last headline, being trumpeted all over the media and internet, is merely a rumor, as this line from the article explains: The US is publicly denying any role in setting a time frame for a halt to Israeli strikes. The rumor came from British, European and Israeli sources.

And by golly that's enough to make it a headline...

UPDATE:

Note: The following text is a quote:

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Thu Jul 20 2006 00:22:42 GMT-0700.

LEBANON

July 19, 2006

This Travel Warning is being updated in light of the current situation in Lebanon. The U.S. Government is currently organizing and providing transportation for all American citizens wishing to depart Lebanon. We urge Americans who intend to depart to avail themselves of this opportunity now. The Department of State urges American citizens to defer travel to Lebanon. Due to ongoing security concerns in Lebanon, the U.S. Embassy on July 13 was granted authorized departure status. Family members and non-emergency American employees have departed the country. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on July 13, 2006.

The Department of State is concerned for the personal safety of American citizens due to the current security situation in Lebanon. In light of the recent events in Lebanon and the resulting escalation in tensions, including the closure of Beirut International Airport and the Port of Beirut, American citizens who wish to depart Lebanon are urged to do so. The U.S. Embassy is monitoring the situation in Lebanon closely and is assisting American citizens to depart safely.

The Department of State continues to encourage American citizens to remain in a safe location until such time that they can depart. American citizens living or traveling in Lebanon who wish assistance in departing Lebanon should contact the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 in the U.S. or 202-501-4444 outside the U.S. Although we understand that Syria is willing to admit Americans without visas, there have been reports of damage to the border crossing on the main Beirut-Damascus road at Masnaa and along the northern Lebanon-Syrian border. If American citizens attempting to depart to Syria despite the hazards encounter difficulty, they should contact the U.S. Embassy in Damascus at 963-11-333-1342.

There remains the possibility of anti-U.S. demonstrations, and American citizens are reminded that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens should avoid any areas where demonstrations are possible and exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. U.S. citizens in Lebanon are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Beirut where they may also obtain updated information on travel and security in Lebanon. See registration details below.

U.S. citizens who remain in Lebanon despite this Travel Warning should exercise heightened caution when traveling in parts of the southern suburbs of Beirut, portions of the Bekaa Valley and South Lebanon, and the cities of Sidon and Tripoli. The Hizballah terrorist group has not been disarmed and maintains a strong presence in many of these areas; and there is the potential for action by other extremist groups in Tripoli.

Dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance throughout south Lebanon are significant and also exist in other areas where civil war fighting was intense. Travelers should be aware of posted landmine warnings and strictly avoid all areas where landmines and unexploded ordnance may be present.

The Embassy is located in Awkar, near Antelias, Beirut, Lebanon. Public access hours for American citizens under normal conditions are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. However, American citizens who require emergency services outside of these hours may contact the Embassy by telephone at any time. The telephone numbers are (961-4) 542-600, 543-600, and fax 544-209. American citizens may register with the Embassy online by visiting https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs. Information on consular services and registration can also be found at http://lebanon.usembassy.gov/ or by phone at the above telephone numbers between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday local time.

Updated information on travel and security in Lebanon may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States or, from overseas, 202-501-4444. Additional details can be found in the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet for Lebanon, the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement and the Travel Publication A Safe Trip Abroad, all of which are available on the Department's Internet site at http://travel.state.gov.

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/LindaChavez/2006/07/19/our_common_enemy

"Our common enemy"
By Linda Chavez
Wednesday, July 19, 2006

COLUMN SNIPPET: "Hezbollah is not just an enemy of Israel, it is an enemy of the United States. Before al Qaeda entered America's consciousness, Hezbollah was our chief enemy among terrorist organizations. For more than 20 years, Hezbollah has been shedding the blood of Americans. In 1983, Hezbollah killed 241 Marines as they slept in their barracks in Beirut. Hezbollah is also believed to be responsible for the bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996, which killed 19 members of the U.S. Air Force. Hezbollah has also kidnapped American diplomats and hijacked TWA flight 847 in 1985.

But Hezbollah does not act alone. It is now, and has always been, the murderous proxy of Iran. All of which makes the current conflict between Hezbollah and Israel of enormous significance in the War on Terror. Iran is to Hezbollah what Taliban-controlled Afghanistan was to al Qaeda. It is difficult to imagine eliminating the threat of terrorism from such murderous organizations without regime change in the countries that sponsor their acts. We understood this when we decided to invade Afghanistan after the attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. Yet neither Israel nor the United States is ready to take on Iran directly, even as Iran moves closer to developing nuclear weapons.

In some ways, the violence occurring in Lebanon and Israel is a distraction from the larger problem of what to do about Iran. Hezbollah's assault on Israel came at the very time that the United Nations Security Council, with the acquiescence of the United States, was trying to sweet-talk Iran out of pursuing its nuclear program. But despite significant incentives -- including the possibility of lifting of U.S. sanctions against the sale of commercial aircraft, agricultural equipment and communications technology in place since Iran took Americans hostage in 1979 -- Iran has balked at giving up its nuclear ambitions. "

FRONTPAGE MAGAZINE.com: "IRAN'S PROXY WAR AGAINST AMERICA" by Kenneth R. Timmerman (July 20, 2006)

Killer snippet from Timmerman's article:

Make no mistake about the nearly month-old hot war between Hezbollah and Israel. This is the opening salvo of Iran’s global assault on the United States and its allies over Iran’s “right” to possess nuclear weapons.

The Iranian-backed attacks are aimed at deterring an Israeli military strike against Iranian nuclear and missile facilities.
