:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Bin Laden Says Will Take Fight to America
(Full Story)

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden said his group reserved the right to fight the United States on its land and warned Washington and the world community against sending forces to Somalia, according to an Internet audio tape.

"We will fight its (U.S.) soldiers on the land of Somalia ... and we reserve the right to punish it on its land and anywhere possible," said the speaker, who sounded like the Saudi-born militant.

"We warn all of the countries in the world not to respond to America by sending international troops to Somalia," he said of the African nation where Islamists' power is rising.

Indonesia: Bashir Says Holy Warriors Should Go to Israel

This one is for those who do not yet understand that Israel is facing the same jihad as the rest of us. From AKI, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

Jakarta, 3 July (AKI) - Indonesian Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir, considered the spiritual leader of the al-Qaeda linked militant group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), has called on Indonesia to send holy warriors to fight in Israel in response to the recent airstrikes by the Israeli forces on the Palestinian territories. The Associated Press reported that Bashir called Israel the "enemy of Allah" and said that is why Indonesia "should send holy warriors there." He was addresssing hundreds of members of the Muslim-based Crescent Star Party in the Indonesian capital Jakarta....

The United States and the United Nations have listed JI as a terrorist organisation and both Malaysia and Singapore have already banned the organisation. Despite JI's connection with such violence, in Indonesia the group hasn't been banned or branded a terrorist organisation. The main aim of JI is to create an Islamic Caliphate in South-East Asia.

On Sunday, thousands of people from a Muslim group known as the Islamist Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), were reported to have gathered in front of the US embassy in Jakarta to denounce the military offensive by Israel and to show support for the Palestinian people. The protestors also shouted anti-American slogans and accused Israel of human rights violations. They condemned Israel's military operation in Gaza and demanded the release of Palestinian officials who had been arrested.

2 stowaways found dead in shipping container bound for Miami

Snip: The U.S. Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection were waiting for the Panama-flagged Seaboard Trader to dock at the port Monday evening to determine the condition of two additional stowaways reportedly aboard.

Shipping container supposedly containing furniture had $22 million of drugs instead

Snip: Four people faced a Sydney court yesterday after federal police found 120kg of the pseudoephedrine tablets - used to make speed and ice - in a shipping container from Jakarta.

$40 million of Ecstacy found in shipping container

Snip: Vacuum-sealed packets containing 350kg of the illegal tablets were found floating in plastic tubs in a shipping container, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and customs officials said in a joint statement today. The container, x-rayed and unpacked at Port Melbourne on June 4, had been sent from Canada via Hong Kong.

Update: NJ firm and officer admit export of Sparrow missile parts to China via shipping container

Snip: Instead of smelting the parts as certified, however, in March 2004, SMI sold the parts to a company owned in part by the Chinese government, loaded them into a 40-foot shipping container and delivered them to the Maher Terminal at Port Elizabeth in New Jersey for export to China. The Sparrow missile parts were concealed in the nose of the shipping container, at the furthest point from the doors, behind and underneath scrap metal, according to the Informations.

1,100# of fireworks found in shipping container

Snip: About 1,100 pounds of fireworks were found in a 25-foot metal shipping container at a farm at the 18200 block of 72nd Avenue South, said Capt. Kyle Ohashi of the Kent Fire Department.

Improved port security not out of reach

Snip: When the Dubai Ports World controversy surfaced in February, politicians focused on the wrong end of the supply chain. If a bomb or other dangerous material is placed in a shipping container, discovering it after it is unloaded in Seattle is too late. The plot needs to be foiled before it blows up the global trading system, instantly generating hundreds of billions of dollars in economic losses.

"Policy group urges RFID to thwart terrorists"
By Alice Lipowicz, Contributing Writer

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Use of radio frequency identification tracking technologies and 24-hour remote sensor systems on shipping containers not only would boost port security but also would have significant commercial benefits, according to a new study from the Public Policy Institute of California.

The government should encourage such dual-use technologies, for both security and commercial gain, because such investments are the most likely way to improve port security, the study said.

“Profit-seeking investments by private-sector shippers, carriers and port operators to enhance the efficiency of the global containerized supply chain may do more to prevent terrorist groups from using container shipping as a conveyor of weapons of mass destruction than will investments targeted at the outset specifically to the security threat,” the study said."

"U.S. Navy says al Qaeda poses major threat from sea"
Reuters ^ | Stefano Ambrogi | July 3, 2006

Posted on 07/03/2006 11:27:03 PM PDT by FairOpinion

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "LONDON (Reuters) - The threat of an al Qaeda attack from the sea remains an "absolute concern" and could intensify as operations on land are countered, the U.S. Navy's top commander in the Gulf told Reuters on Monday.

Since the September 11 attacks on the United States, governments and security experts have repeatedly voiced fears about the vulnerability of the maritime industry, which carries more than 90 percent of the world's traded goods.

"I don't think there is any question that as we thwart their attacks and disrupt their operations on land, that we should expect them to turn to the sea," Vice Admiral Patrick M. Walsh, who is in charge of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, said in an interview.

"It is something that is an absolute concern and focus for us, and I will not rest easy in this job (until it is checked)," he said, speaking by telephone from Manama in Bahrain.

Walsh said al Qaeda, which is well known to have a maritime arm, was very adept at blending into the maritime environment."

Target any white person: the chilling guidelines for Bali suicide bombers

By Anton La Guardia, Diplomatic Editor
(Filed: 04/07/2006)

Any white person is a target. Avoid hotels because they are too well protected. Carry the bombs in small knapsacks to avoid suspicion. And don't worry about your escape route because you will become a "martyr".

These guidelines for suicide bombers were found on a computer captured by Indonesian police during a raid in November, and are believed to have been written by the British-educated bomb-maker Azahari Husin, who died during the attack.

Severed heads thought linked to drug turf war over Nuevo Laredo, Mexico
The Dallas Morning News, via The Contra Costa Times ^ | 1 July 2006 | Laurence Iliff

Posted on 07/04/2006 2:36:34 AM PDT by Bangupjob

MEXICO CITY - The red tide of narco killings continued in the resort city of Acapulco, Mexico, this week, with the severed heads of two men discovered Friday, officials said. A day earlier, another head was found on the stairs of City Hall.

All bore messages directed at the Nuevo Laredo-based Zetas, the enforcement arm of the Gulf cartel that operates along the Mexico-Texas border. The Zetas are in a vicious turf war with the Sinaloa cartel, named for the central Mexican state where it is based.

The message found with the first decapitated head, discovered in a black plastic bag Thursday, was for Heriberto Lazcano, the reputed leader of the Zetas. It referred to Zeta attacks against the Sinaloa cartel in Acapulco.

"Loscano (sic), keep sending me more of your idiot (soldiers) so they learn some respect," said the message left next to the plastic bag. It ended with the letter "z," pronounced "zeta" in Spanish.

"It's an act of provocation," said Acapulco Mayor Felix Salgado. "I've received death threats, and not just now, but for some time," he told reporters.

In January, Acapulco police killed four suspected Sinaloa cartel members in a shootout at a busy intersection not far from the tourist zone.

Muslim Britain split over 'martyrs' of 7/7
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-2254764,00.html ^ | Alexandra Frean and Rajeev Syal

Posted on 07/04/2006 3:00:52 AM PDT by croak

A SIGNIFICANT minority of British Muslims believe they are at war with the rest of society, the largest poll of Muslims in this country suggests. The Populus survey for The Times and ITV News has found that more than one in ten thinks that the men who carried out the London bombings of 7/7 should be regarded as “martyrs”. Sixteen per cent of British Muslims, equivalent to more than 150,000 adults, believe that while the attacks were wrong, the cause was right.

But the poll also revealed a stark gulf between this group and the majority of British Muslims, who want the Government to take tougher measures against extremists within their community.

More than half (56 per cent) believe that the Government has failed to combat extremism, a higher proportion than the 49 per cent of the general population who agree

Tamil Tiger leader lectures Harper

KILINOCHCHI, Sri Lanka—In a villa surrounded by tall jak fruit trees and a squad of cadres toting T-56 assault rifles, S.P. Thamilselvan, the political leader of the Tamil Tiger guerrillas, sits pondering the political missteps of Stephen Harper's rookie government.

"We know the complexity of the political problems any party would normally come across during a period of transition or a change from one party to another," he says.

Thamilselvan says he's been searching for a plausible reason Harper's government ignored Canada's 200,000-strong Tamil community and placed their "freedom-fighting organization" alongside Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah on a list of criminal terrorist groups.

Canada used to be well-respected here in Tiger land. It was known as a haven for thousands of Tamil refugees fleeing persecution by the Sinhalese-dominated government during a civil war that raged in the 1980s and '90s, leaving 64,000 people dead.

But since Ottawa's decision in April, Canada is now thought of as a country that turned its back on the Tigers' fight for a separate Tamil homeland.

In the first Canadian interview he's given since Ottawa's decision, Thamilselvan says he suspects Harper is playing a cheap game to score political points early in his minority mandate.
