Donna...thanks for remembering me in your prayers...I have had a rough couple of month's.
RR, this brief article will answer your questions as to the nature of the outage and the areas affected.
California flights resume after radar power restoredLOS ANGELES, July 18 (Reuters) - A power outage late on Tuesday at a regional FAA radar center halted most air traffic in Southern California, but back-up power had allowed some flights to resume, officials said.
"The cause (of the power outage) is under investigation," said Allen Kenitzer, regional spokesman of the Federal Aviation Administration. Back-up power has been restored at 6:51 p.m., he said.
The regional radar facility in Palmdale, about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of downtown Los Angeles, lost power, cutting radar for Southern California airports, including San Diego, at 5:38 p.m. local time (8:38 p.m. EDT, 0038 GMT Wednesday).
Kenitzer said he had heard a traffic accident in Palmdale might have been the cause, but could not confirm that report.
More than 75 departing flights at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the fifth busiest in the world, had been affected.
The outage grounded flights from nearly all Southern California airports, from as far north as San Luis Obispo to the Mexican Border, including San Diego, Palm Springs, Van Nuys, Orange County, Oxnard, Burbank and Ontario. A Las Vegas airport was also affected.
Once a jet takes off from a Southern California airport, the air traffic controllers "hand off" to the regional FAA radar in Palmdale. With this hand off not possible, the flights were grounded.
Many incoming flights were also reported to be turned back. One passenger from the San Francisco Bay Area said her Los Angeles-bound flight returned to the Oakland airport.
In New York, power outages due to equipment problems also disrupted air traffic at LaGuardia airport.
Thank you Jill.

Prayers continuing for you.
They aren't the only ones fed up with Hizbullah! Thanks for the summation.
Hezbollah in America - from 2005, but still relevant
Snip: Outside of metropolitan Detroit, last month's arrest of Nemr Ali Rahal, a 41-year-old businessman, at his Dearborn home on charges of smuggling funds to Hezbollah, went largely unreported by the news media around the United States. But the story deserves our attention. In Mr. Rahal's house, agents found a videotape of a Hezbollah rally he attended in Lebanon three years ago. The FBI said it found $600 worth of change in buckets in the Rahal home, and that he said the money was meant to go to "orphans" -- the children of suicide bombers. Mr. Rahal has been charged with stealing more than $400,000 by means of credit-card fraud. When Mr. Rahal returned Feb. 9 from a trip to Canada, Customs agents found traces of explosives on his passport.
In March, Mahmoud Kourani of Dearborn pleaded guilty to providing material support for Hezbollah. He will be sentenced next month. Kourani ( whose brother is Hezbollah's chief of military security in southern Lebanon) is an illegal alien who sneaked into the United States from Mexico in February 2001. Federal authorities have repeatedly arrested suspected Hezbollah operatives for attempting to smuggle night-vision goggles and other military equipment to the organization. One suspect, arrested in 1998, skipped bail and fled to Lebanon before returning to the United States last year to face federal charges. In 2003, a federal court convicted a Hezbollah cell based in Charlotte, N.C., on charges of aiding Hezbollah by operating a cigarette-smuggling ring. The leader of that group, Mohammed Hammoud, received 155 years in prison.

I am hearing quite a bit of air traffic overhead, more than normal at this time. I'm under the landing flightpath. It has usually quieted down by now, but they are catching up.
Having worked at the airlines, I realize what havoc this is going to be for all airline employees... will take a few days to aright.
When I was watching the local news tonight; (paraphrasing here) they said LAX and other airports would be playing catch-up with the flights until all the flight schedules were back to normal.

IRAQ: four al-Qaeda figures arrested and one leader dead
AKI ^ | 2006 Jul 18
Posted on 07/19/2006 4:04:59 AM PDT by Wiz
Baghdad, 18 July (AKI) - Four figures of the al-Qaeda linked Omar Brigades have been arrested in Iraq, including one responsible for an attack on a market that killed 62 people, the national security advisor Muwaffaq al-Rubaie announced Tuesday. Al-Rabiy also told a press conference that a Jordanian militant, Diyar Ismail al-Afghani, considered a right hand man and potential heir to the Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had been killed. He said Jasim Mohammed Mahdi al-Samarrai, known as Abu Othman, the Brigades' leader, "died from serious wounds some hours after his arrest". The Omar Brigades claim to have carried out many deadly attacks across Iraq.
The others arrested were Abu Othman's deputy Abu Aisha, in charge of financing the group, and Abu Ihab, who oversaw recruitment. along with Abu Islam, who was the group's religious leader, al-Rubaie told repoters.
Al-Rubaie said that Abu Othman was responsible for the explosions in Sadr City which killed 62 and injured more than 100, and noted that he was a commander at al-Anbar and was behind terrorist movements and suicide attacks.
