Editor's note: On the evening of July 17, 1996, at 8:19 p.m., TWA Flight 800, a Boeing 747, took off from Kennedy Airport, bound for Paris. At 8:31 p.m., over 730 people watched Flight 800 explode, killing all 230 of the people aboard.
Not long afterwards, millions of Americans watched their televisions in fascinated horror as search and rescue crews looked for survivors among the flaming debris. Only dead bodies were recovered.
Flight 800 is mostly an ugly memory for people these days. The U.S. government issued an explanation that a fuel tank had somehow exploded. Yet, they flatly denied any evidence existed of foul play, including the possibility that Flight 800 had been blown out of the air by a missile.
All but a few journalists accepted the government's version of events. Few bothered to investigate the numerous eyewitnesses, the radar records and the physical evidence that all suggested a strikingly different explanation of Flight 800's untimely demise. And those few who did question the government's version were made to look like fools or, worse, thrown in jail and prosecuted as criminals for meddling in an official investigation.
What really happened to Flight 800? ....

I would not ignore the testimony of hundreds of eyewitnesses who saw TWA 800 shot down by either one or two missiles. That's the strongest evidence in this case and yet it was essentially ignored by the FBI. Don't forget too that initial reports by the NY Times quoted the FBI saying that explosives residues were found on the crash debris. I have my own theory of what actually happened and it's not a fuel tank explosion.
In the NTSB report none of this was ignored at all. I would never trust anything the New York Times said. I have seen some of their reports regarding munitions.
So what is your theory?
Mine was originally a missile until I looked a little closer and the facts and capabilities.
Yes, and I was aware of this before I read this report. I read these report and was looking specifically for how much energy they used to ignite the fuel. I admit that I hastily found the first energy source that was stated and assumed without reading into it that it was the ignition. I apologize for my rash assumption.
Germans WWII.
I'm concerned by the intensity with which some people here want to clear the Clinton Administration of any wrongdoing in this case. What is the motive for this intense effort that I've seen by a few posters on this site?
Very good and as early as 1938. But I really wanted the radialengine guy to answer.
My theory on this subject is too tough and controversial for a public website.
Perhaps you are more concerned about nailing Clinton than anything else and it has clouded your judgement.
Clinton was a big player in the anti-war movement. I was on the receiving end of a lot of that to include the IED's. I also spent three nights at Kerry's "peace" demonstration searching for 600lbs of explosives that VVAW had in town to try and blow one of the bridges. We found a hoax bomb on Key bridge and shortly after that the US Capital building was bombed in 1971. I personally handled several of the IED's but saw almost all of the reports in the North Eastern US when I was at the First Army EODCC. I was also aware of what was going on in the rest of the country, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the UK. We all exchanged information.
I would never do anything to protect that crowd. I still think some of them should be in jail.
No one ever identified a missile.
From the witnesses to the corner not able to do the autopsys. From the picture that was taken illegally that shown hyper velocity projectiles holes to the confiscated debris that disappeared and the red powder all over the seats (which was NOT glue according to Donaldson.) Last but not least the comment Clinton made in private of the incident.
Nothing has clouded my judgment. I will say this: I believe TWA 800 was shot down by a missile. It's the who and why of that shootdown that I would rather not get into.
So where in the aircraft did this missile explode?
Why do you mean by the term "identify"? Are you saying that no missile parts were recovered and there's no physical evidence of a missile? Perhaps there isn't in the official reports but that means nothing if the investigation was compromised. I'm saying that eye witnesses saw and identified a missile traveling up to the airplane. That is the exact word used by a number of witnesses: missile.
Sorry, I'm typing too fast. That should say: What do you mean by the term "identify"?
On a different subject, tell me what brought down the WTC and all the "scientific" reports on that. I am kind of looking at your thought pattern. I can relate both findings based on what you say.
What does the WTC have to do with TWA 800?
You mean the late Cmdr Donaldson who sent a letter to the Director of the FBI on 25 September 1998 that said TWA 800 was shot down by a boat mounted SA-6? And who in the same letter said the following..."Its doubtful you could find any missile expert in this country who would point to MANPADS (Stinger type weapons) as a suspect in this incident because they are not even capable of bringing down a 747." 25 Sep 1998
You mean the same late Cmdr Donaldson who eight months later, on 5 April 1999 sent a letter to the presidents of Boeing and TWA telling them he had conclusive proof the TWA 800 was shot down by a MANPAD. 5 April 1999
You mean the same late Cmdr Donaldson, who in his 6 May 1999 Congressional Testimony couldn't remember whether he'd led one or two accident investigations while in the military, and claimed to have supervised a dozen more despite there being no such position in a Naval mishap investigation board. And during the same testimony admitted that at various times he had insisted to Congressman Jim Traficant's office that a Canadian Frigate had been involved in the TWA 800 incident, and later that two missiles had been fired at the aircraft including one from a US Navy Aegis class cruiser. 6 May 1999
You mean the same late Cmdr Donaldson who less than two weeks later in a letter dated 17 May 1999 to Congressman Duncan Hunter and CC'd to five other Senators and Congressmen, the president of Boeing and multiple foreign Air Force Attaches explained how TWA 800 was hit by a MANPAD that exploded inside the "number two main tank". 17 May 1999
You mean the same late Cmdr Donaldson who nine months later on 19 Feb 2000 wrote a letter to the Chairman of the NTSB claiming that radar data proved a missile had hit and passed completely through TWA 800? 19 Feb 2000
That Cmdr Donaldson?
I'm not impressed.
You didn't answer my question.
Read the answer again about thought process.
