Editor's note: On the evening of July 17, 1996, at 8:19 p.m., TWA Flight 800, a Boeing 747, took off from Kennedy Airport, bound for Paris. At 8:31 p.m., over 730 people watched Flight 800 explode, killing all 230 of the people aboard.

Not long afterwards, millions of Americans watched their televisions in fascinated horror as search and rescue crews looked for survivors among the flaming debris. Only dead bodies were recovered.

Flight 800 is mostly an ugly memory for people these days. The U.S. government issued an explanation that a fuel tank had somehow exploded. Yet, they flatly denied any evidence existed of foul play, including the possibility that Flight 800 had been blown out of the air by a missile.

All but a few journalists accepted the government's version of events. Few bothered to investigate the numerous eyewitnesses, the radar records and the physical evidence that all suggested a strikingly different explanation of Flight 800's untimely demise. And those few who did question the government's version were made to look like fools or, worse, thrown in jail and prosecuted as criminals for meddling in an official investigation.

No need to take this approach US Army EOD we are discussing what we know, heard, seen, think and nobody has a lock on the truth. You have as good a chance being right as the rest of us. I'll settle for KNOWING the truth over being right.

To believe the government, Boeing has to be lying (possible to avoid terrorists in the courtroom (lawyers)), 270 witnesses both civilian and military have to be mistaken at best lying at worse, A fuselage with all the aerodynamics of a Yugo can climb 3000 feet, Boeing engineers are so stupid they do not use intrinsically safe electrical components in an explosive fuel environment, and George Stephanopoulos did not say anything about the downing of TWA800 long after the FBI/CIA/FAA produced their cartoon.

When the front section of the aircraft broke off, the remaining section would have been tail heavy, lighter and still had power on. No problem climbing an additional 3000 feet.

According to the 40 747 captains I heard discussing what happened it would be impossible for the plane to climb with the nose off, because it is aeronautically unstable.

...and it only ever happened once? I was in military aviation, and I just don't buy it. Even the 737 rudder actuator problem happened multiple times, and that was an equally unlikely event.

Question: If the explosion was internal, wouldn't the metal from the plane show an outward bend? I haven't been able to find anything that confirms one way or the other which way the blast was going. Have you?

The conspiracy on all of this is quite simple - don't want to freak out the American public so that we'd stop flying for fun. Make it a mechanical problem - ask Richard Clarke - he concluded that before any evidence was given to him. All about re-election and the economy.

According to the government the plane continued to climb 3,000 feet after the explosion with the nose missing, and according to the 747 captains and engineers I talked to that is impossible.

According to the documentary, the explosion was internal. When the wall of the fuel tank failed, this caused a stuctural part of the aircraft to fail also. The aircraft started to split a the bottom and it continued to the top behind the cockpit of the aircraft. It literally tore itself apart.

I would be more leary of flying based on what I saw in the documentary than if it was hit by a missile. The documentary basically meant under the same conditions, any 747 or aircraft with the same basic design of the fuel tanks could have the same thing happen to them.

One other quick question for you, do you have any idea what could have possible caused the fire balls at the WIC, the Pentagon, or when Flight 93 hit the ground? All they had in them was jet fuel.

The first rule of the Clinton Admin was "lie".

If it was a simple plane crash, there was no need for the FBI or CIA but they closed out the NTSB and took over. Why? It was an unprecedented action for simple plane crashes. This had a stench from the beginning.

Actually, it's a theory that a "spark" in the center fuel-tank caused the downing of FT. 800. No one knows for certain that's what happened.
Many more people witnessed a streak of light than witnessed a spark.
