HUNDREDS of insurgents have been captured or killed as a result of information gleaned from the hunting down of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, it was claimed yesterday.
Even as the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq reached 2,500, the military was trumpeting the success of its pursuit of al-Qaeda, revealing 452 raids carried out since Zarqawi's killing on 7 June had resulted in the deaths of 104 insurgents, the capture of 759 "anti-Iraqi elements" and the discovery of 28 arms caches.
US and Iraqi officials said large numbers of documents had been seized during the hunt for Zarqawi, giving key information about the militant group's net-work and the whereabouts of its leaders.
Mouwafak al-Rubaie, Iraq's national security adviser, called it "the beginning of the end of al-Qaeda in Iraq". He said: "Now we have the upper hand. We feel that we know their locations, the names of their leaders, their whereabouts, their movements, through the documents we found during the last few days."
The documents seized included one from a computer found in an al-Qaeda hideout used by Zarqawi, apparently setting out al-Qaeda's future tactics and acknowledging it was losing not only the military battle but also the propaganda war. One of its suggestions for redressing the balance was to encourage hostility between the US and Iran. The document also said Zarqawi planned to try to destroy the relationship between the US and its Shiite allies in Iraq.

Freeking idiots can't even report this right.
The number killed is still less then 2000 !
The 2500 is the number who have died by accidents, heart attacks and other ailments etc..
"Be afwaid. Be vewy afwaid!"
funny part of all this is how liberals still declare that Zarqawi's death meant nothing.
It sure does look that way.
I have one of these. It's a Swiss Army knife with a file/screwdriver blade, scissors, and a 2 gigabyte thumb drive (enough to hold about 2000 copies of the Bible). The memory chip part pops out so you can take it on an airplane. There is also a tiny LED flashlight and a ballpoint pen. Every week, I back up my most important computer files to it. They are always with me on my key chain. It's one slick little device.

Yes. And unlike many thumb drives, the USB connector is totally covered and protected.

Which makes me think of a scenario when torture would work. McCain and the other Enemy Reps in America are always talking about how "you can never be sure if the info you get from torture is any good".
Scenario:
Zarqawi (or some other dirt-bag) captured alive. With his flash-drive. The military or police authorities have strong evidence that flash drive contains the geographic location of a ticking nuke, somewhere in a US city. But the data on the flash drive is encrypted with 256 bit. The only way to unencrypt is get the password.
You've got a computer, you've got the flash-drive in the computer, you've got the password prompt dialog box open, you've got the dirt-bag on the torture rack next to the computer. When the dirt-bag gives you the right password, you will see the result immediately. If the password he gives you fails, you apply more torture and repeat the question. Now, maybe he's strong enough to take it and never gives you the right password. But if he does give you the right password, you'll know it, immediately.
Therefore, this is a scenario in which torture is a) absolutely justifiable, b) potentially effective, c) most likely the only method that will work, and d) instantly and totally verifiable.
