Crisis management experts are calling for the creation of a "United Nations army"-an international rapid reaction force that could be deployed within 48 hours to intervene in emergency situations around the globe.
Composed of up to 15,000 military, police and civilian staff, including medics, the proposed force would be recruited from professionals hired by the U.N. from many countries, and based at designated U.N. sites.

No where do you see a cost estimate for this thing. The UNO couldn't afford the thing.

UN Army would collapse onto itself burdened by so much regulatory crap... "file form U-F194 for firing a rifle under x circumstances"

It might make sense to hire a staff of translators, logistics experts, medics, and doctors along with security to protect them for rapid insertion into disaster zones. Such a team would be prohibitively expensive though.

The biggest mistake Truman made was allowing the building of UN headquarters in NYC.No, the bigger mistake was getting the U.S. into the U.N. in the first place. GET US OUT NOW!

Why be in that big a hurry after you spend 3 or 4 years 'discussing' the issue. Ya know, I could be wrong about the UN being incapable of acting in 48 hours. How long did it take them to beat feet out of Iraq after the suicide bombing of the UN compound? Was it 48 hours or less? I seem to remember that they could surrender in a timely manner.

Since the UN is unable to come to a decision within 48 hours of an emergency, or even 48 days, I wouldn't sweat this story much.

At the expense of sounding like a conspiracy theorist - Yes! That is exactly what I meant.
As I mentioned earlier, look at the UN critique of our aid to the Tsunami victims. In fact look at the UN's critique of Iraq..... etc. If the UN approves it, then it's OK. The UN is supra nationalist and "preaches" that it is somehow morally right when nations subordinate their sovereign identity to them. The UN quiet frankly is not even supportive of certain NATO expansion since the UN sees this as competing with their expansion of power.
The UN is a huge beast. Global in reach it has taken on a culture, identity and agenda of its own. The UN unfortunately has been hijacked by third rate tin pot regimes. Take a baboon and throw a $5,000 suit on him and you have Kofi Annan. The UN is all about appearances but lacks all substance. I trust a US court more than a UN court. I trust US commanders more than some baboon with a bunch of stars pinned to his uniform. I don't see the UN representing US or Western interests often. No, the UN has become a reflection of it's member states. People like Qaddafi, Putin, or communist China have a say in this organization. Should one really need to say more?

Wake me up when they take care of that in Rwanda, and Sierra Leone, and other great places they have succeeded in saving.
LOL, wake me up when they *define* genocide. Or terrorism for that matter.

In other words, they would be funding, recruiting and arming the al Quedas, Ham@sses, et al. of the world. The tin hat dictators and criminals that make up the UN hate the West and would basically be setting up and organizing the resistance to us. Changing the camel-back communications networks and money distribution to make sure that a global "insurgency" happens. Why don't they move to one of the Arab countries since they seem to be in bed with them? F the UN.
