June 15, 2006 -- WHO'D have thought it possible even a month ago? President Bush is getting his mojo back.
The president just had the best week of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency - and the end of the investigation of Karl Rove, which would have been the headline grabber not long ago, had little to do with it.
Instead, the president's brilliantly conceived and executed trip to Baghdad - giving exactly the right boost at the right time to new Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki - capped off seven days that included the forming of a full Iraqi Cabinet and the success of the U.S. military in locating, bombing and killing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the sadistic Jordanian-born insurgency leader that Osama bin Laden once called the "prince of Iraq."
Equally significant, the night Zarqawi died, American forces staged 17 raids on insurgent targets. By Monday, they had launched 140 more. On the day of the president's visit, 75,000 troops fanned out over Baghdad, ordered to clear the Iraqi capital of the violence and anarchy that has plagued it for months.

poker player or a great chess player?
My Answer: Poker - and here's why.
- Chess is one-on-one - poker is one-on-many
- Chess requires you to play 1 game (hand) - poker you can fold now - take a loss - and win later
- Poker occasionally allows you to bluff - in chess, bluffs are clearly visible
Get my drift?
Try a little limberger with that whine.
***Sometimes I think they bow in prayer to the east (the White House) instead of to the Cross.***
If YOU think THAT, YOU're the one with the problem. But then, Bush Derangement Syndrome is just as real on the Right Wing as it is on the Left Wing...the TRUTH of which YOU're a prime example.
People who expect perfection will always be disappointed.
People who expect any given candidate to be exactly on the same page as they are on every issue will always be disappointed.
I, for one, am delighted about the events of the past week.
Like I said, good analogy and great talking to you.
I have come to view quailfiers such as the above in the same category as, "Some of my best friends are..."
If you have to quailfy your statement, chances are you are not telling the truth.
Back at you - good thoughts.
GO W GO
I agree. However, to be fair....there's been many, many bright days as well. It's just that one has to dig long & deep to hear because the MSM won't tell you.
***Iran is running around hoping to draw into a straight flush, not realizing GWB holds the aces - our military, specifically our Navy.***
The Iranian Dude is gonna get help from Castro and Chavez and the PRK...yep, they're gonna save him.
Snicker.
Dog! Just got back from picking up the grandkids! In his pocket!! Dare I say it will have all sorts of information we can use! Like identities of people unknown to us who helped him, maybe OBL's contact information? Wowser!
I think the recent release of the Sadaam papers is the final act of the "Bush Lied" super-rope-a-dope.
I don't get this. I agree that things are looking up for the president, but I don't get the fascination with this trip. In my view, the nature of the trip underlined not so much how well things are going in Iraq, but how dangerous things still are. If things were going great, he wouldn't need to fly in secretly with his staff in flak jackets. It was a good trip, but he's been to Iraq before. I don't see the Iraq trip as a piece of this puzzle.
To me, just my stupid opinion, the reason the president's fortunes are looking up are firstly that arch terrorist Zarqawi is dead. Americans want vengeance done, and Zarq was a nice scalp on the old lodgepole. Second, the immigration debate is pretty much played out. The anti-bush-immigration-plan folks are all cried out. You know how a kid cries and cries and eventually simply runs out of steam and takes a nap? That's the anti-bush-immigration-plan crowd, in my view. Third, the democrats continue to be complete barking moonbats. they are so far divorced from reality that by default bush will do better.
So that's my take. The Iraq trip was fine, but I really don't see it as a huge deal. Maybe it's just me.

Lately I've been envisioning the 2008 election cycle. I don't think it's too optimistic to imagine that by the spring of 08, in the height of the election season, that our troop levels will be drawing down significantly in Iraq. Imagine tickertape victory parades in major American cities as victories American liberators return home. Imagine this all happens while in Iraq, a democratically elected gubmint is up and running, basic utilties are functioning, we have an Arab ally in the ME. And then imagine what on earth the completely hapless DEMs are going to run on.
Just out of curiosity, why is someone who raises real concerns that reflect the mood of the majority of our fellow citizens, labeled as a whiner and complainer?
Yes, there have been plenty of bright days. But I have also been here for the darkest days such as April and November of '04 and other awful events. That's why this past week has been particularly sweet.
I have tirelessly refuted the media here on FR for two and a half years, reporting the positive news out of Iraq and slicing through the media's blatant distortions. I have come under fire from negative, troll-like FReepers for doing so.
I have hung in here well over the year I committed to because I knew from what I was seeing that these days we are experiencing now were coming.
I haven't had to dig deep at all to see through the media's B.S.
All I've ever had to do was look around me.
Every single time we go into the summer, we have had these "Bush is failing, nothing's getting done" reports from the press, echoed here by the chronic Bush criics.
Then right before the August vacation we get a flurry of activity, Congress passes a bunch of stuff, and everyone is standing around with puzzled looks of "how did that happen" written on their faces.
All we are hearing about is the failure of the immigration bill, etc. Watch and see what happens in the next month. Lots of people will be surprised.
how many times did fdr or truman visit germany and japan??
