Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.

He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.

The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.

First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.

Here are the President's comments during video conference

And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE

The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!

Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!

That's just exactly what I was thinking yesterday when some liberal dolt reporter was rather stubbornly commenting on the "luck" the Bush admin. was suddenly having in just one week .. with Zarq down, Rove cleared, trip to Iraq -- and I said .. "that's not luck .. that's the angel in the whirlwind, who directs this storm." Praise God, for He is merciful and faithful.

Put a lid on it or take it to a different thread. This thread isn't about debating immigration or bashing the President. There are plenty of other threads and willing participants for that unfortunately.

What a great Day! The smile on President Bush's face is priceless. don't forget Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Rice and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld. Absolutely beautiful. It makes me feel safer and full of pride when I see how he looks being in Iraq. The support of the troops and the obvious mutual admiration is truly heartwarming.

This has been a very good week. Lets keep up the positive momentum.

I do not eat much cheese but if I do it is Stilton or cheddar both of which are high in calories, do not like the milk smoked stuff that much.

I am not that physically active which is part of the problem plus also I have taken to sitting whilst freeping and eating chocolate or crisps and have 4 or 5 biscuits with a cup of tea a couple of times a day.

I need to loose about 40lbs which I hope to do by Christmas and then I need to go easy or I will pile a lot of it back on.

For me a calorie controlled diet is best rather than something like Atkins or South Beach because I like a variety of foods and the occasional treat. Before when I have dieted I have been very careful Monday - Saturday and then eat more or less normally on a Sunday. Seems to work for me so I will try this for a month or so to see how I get on and then I might try a modified F Plan diet.

My other problem is that I am only 5'2" so I cannot carry the weight very well.

I had to have the afternoon off to help dad get to his GP and so it was just fortuitous that it happened on such a momentous day it was great to share it live with everyone.

Thank you but seriously I do need to loose weight - I have not been in the right frame of mind to do so. On Sunday a friend of mine asked me advice about calories etc and it somehow got through to me that I know all the theory and that I ought to be putting it into practice.

I now feel ready to do so and hopefully in a few months time I will feel the struggle has been worthwhile especially when I can back into many of clothes that at present I cannot.

That is awesome. I did think about your work schedule and realized something must have happened to spring you loose for such a perfect day to be here.

I hate to admit it but I was 40lbs lighter in the earlier photo.

I know what you mean though I have had a lot of stress and still have a certain amount which has led to comfort eating but I know I need to halt it now.

I feel in the right frame of mind to do so and am hopeful I will suceed but also know that if I do slip up it is not the end of the world and there is always tomorrow.
