Today our courageous and intrepid Commander in Chief and Leader of the Free World......a world freer because of his courage and leadership, made a surprise visit to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq, the first being made at Thanksgiving in 2003, and not announced until he had already departed Iraq. This trip was different. Air Force One landed at Baghdad airport and the President with a handful of reporters, and his Press Secretary, Tony Snow took a Black Hawk helicopter into the Green Zone.
He met with new Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who was informed only shortly before the Presidential visit, and they met together with the newly formed Iraqi Cabinet in a video conference with the President's Cabinet who were gathered at Camp David, Maryland in a remarkable moment in history. He also met with Iraq's President Jalal Talabani during a private meeting to discuss Iraq at the U.S. Embassy.
The President then spoke to military personnel and Embassy personnel at the U.S. Embassy, thanking the troops, and giving a moving speech about the noble mission in Iraq. He was deeply emotional as he discussed their sacrifice and their accomplishment, and the pride that Americans have in them, as well as the amazing progress in the newly sovereign Iraq.
First Lady Laura appeared today at a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum while her husband was 'away.' She spoke there of her pride in her husband. She also appeared at a fundraiser for New Jersey's Tom Kean.
Here are the President's comments during video conference
And here are the pool reports from Drudge...........some good reads...............right HERE
The President is, as I type this, on his way home. Dear Lord, please continue to protect our brave, strong President as he leads this nation through perilous times. Keep him close to Your side, we pray!
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose. It has NEVER been a better day to be a BUSHBOT!!
Funny. I was thinking today about the guys behind the scenes who did all this wiring up and wondered if they were holding their breath that it all worked for such an occasion. Tell him Great Job!
Wow. Great thread . I guess I had better mind my manners in here.
LOL! Naughty boy, where ya been all night? I am about to log off.
Just lurking. I am about to sign off myself.
Thanks for ping onyx. I have been sitting here reading and reading and nodding my head YES to everyone's posts.
You're welcome. I read all the comments too. I am beat. See ya tomorry.
Kind of late to the thread, but just the same...
A wonderful collection of pictures today. I like photos of the president, and I like photos of our troops, and when you have both together...well, what more can you ask for? And those pictures of Cheney and Condi beaming, and Rummy's thumbs-up...priceless.
The surprise trip to Baghdad was awesome - not as awesome as the Thanksgiving visit, but close. It's nice having a president who does really cool things every once in awhile.
Thank you so much for the work tonight that brings us together in our great appreciation, respect, and love for this man. I was especially taken with this line in his speech to the troops but the words were for the world ~~ "This is a moment -- this is a time where the world can turn one way or the other, where the world can be a better place or a more dangerous place."
Friendly advice .. that type of commentary is STRONGLY discouraged on this thread. Please take it elsewhere.
Friendly advice - I didn't see anyone come down on the original poster for calling fellow FReepers on good standing "bastards".
Praise the President, sure - he had a good day. Disagree with other FReepers, sure - we aren't monothlic. But call us invectives like that? Expect a response.
Thanks for this very special dose, oWf! Our president is just awesome!
We did finally get to see the Prez in Baghdad and it was worth the wait.
But I had to turn on the old TV to see the first couple minutes as hubby was watching Miami finally eke out a win over Dallas in the 3rd game of the finals.
That's a real dilemma for my hubby -- basketball vs. Dubya slam dunking the press.
Great speech to the troops, heh?
Thank you for the pictures! It was a great dose!
How sad that CSPIN has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the left wing propaganda machine.
Frankly, I see no difference between CNN, Baghdad Bob, and Al Jazeera.
His body language was so exuberant.
This was a day that gave him a personal boost.
Wish he could feel our admiration and support every day.
In D.C. he is ever under siege. How sad.
How about this response. TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE
In return they honor him.
