The conservative politics of the Bush administration forced me to have an abortion I didn't want. Well, not literally, but let me explain.
I am a 42-year-old happily married mother of two elementary-schoolers. My husband and I both work, and like many couples, we're starved for time together. One Thursday evening this past March, we managed to snag some rare couple time and, in a sudden rush of passion, I failed to insert my diaphragm.

No. Try reading it again.
So sad for Dana.
No one stopped her from using the birth control pill or any of the other forms of birth control
There are many valid reasons that couples decide not to take this step, and it's unconscionable to demand that they do so just because a means of contraception is being withheld for no good reason
I didn't demand anything .. I simply stated that if she and her hubby really wanted to avoid another pregnancy .. either one of them by choice could have gotten a snip snip
If they don't want to do that .. then take personal responsibility for their actions
Where's the Barf Alert?
I never said it was. I just said I am sure this story is fabricated. It is just waaaayyyyy to nicely packaged with little nuances to take every possible stab at anti-abortionists to be true. This types of stories always turn out to be 'false but accurate'.
Also unfortunately, it's behavior like this which is giving conservatism liberalism a bad name, and reinforcing the negative stereotype of conservatives as overly moralistic busybodies liberals who want to control other people's lives and force other people to obey their personal views on same sex marriage, reproductive rights (abortion), higher taxes and a total nanny state. This kind of stuff doesn't help bring more people to the conservative liberal (progressive) movement, and it drives a lot of people away.
"She wanted to abort the baby either way.
She is simply unhappy that she couldn't do it easily by taking a pill."
Exactly!
I'm sure her living children are so proud of mom.
Yes it can, and does. But that doesn't ameliorate the fact that many conservatives are needlessly driving people away from conservatism by their misguided behavior.
You spittled out, "If some pharmacists and physicians are acting on myths instead of reality, they're not fit to practice." Your hatred for people of religious faith is bouncing all over the place. Ah, but you'll say 'I don't hate anyone' won't you! You have missed the entire essence of this woman's screed in the article since you haven't the spirit to perceive the 'it's not a true story but it could be reality' side of this lie meant to promote a myht, a non-reality. Go back to your crevo-evo threads and spittle your crap.
[This isn't about RU-486. Why don't you try reading the article before you go off on a rant?]
I never said it was.
I didn't say that *you* had. Learn to read.
I just said I am sure this story is fabricated.
Of course you are.
A rant? You need to study your dictionary a little more!
Well said
Thanks
What are you babbling about?
Oh, I see -- you saw the worth "myth" and thought I was talking about religion. Sorry, you really ought to work on your reading comprehension. I'm talking about the myths concerning the mechanism of this drug, as anyone with a high school education would have been able to discern from the context of my post. Now wipe the "spittle" off your own lip and get back to us when you've lost that persecution complex and are capable of an adult conversation.
Ah, but you'll say 'I don't hate anyone' won't you!
Right, because I don't. If you keep up this kind of belligerent childishness, however, I might be tempted to make an exception in your case though. On second thought, maybe not, I wouldn't want to stoop to your method of dealing with the world and those with whom you disagree.

When you decide to talk about something I actually said instead of screeching like a loon, do get back to me.
[This isn't about RU-486. Why don't you try reading the article before you go off on a rant?]
Talk about ignorance. You should know. Apparently you are unable to deduce the underlying PURPOSE of this story. This was a concocted story listing every "emotional, touchy-feely, anti-Bush, anti-conservative, pro-abortion (read murder)" leftist agitprop as an excuse to liberalize attitudes towards widespread availability of both abortion and morning-after pill use. A rant? You need to study your dictionary a little more!
Oh look, yet another rant. What a surprise.
Look, son, the point remains that you were ranting about RU-486, when this editorial wasn't about that. It was about a *different* kind of "morning after pill" that works on *different* principles, and is neither "abortion" nor "murder" -- it simply prevents ovulation.
And your screeching rant above doesn't alter or excuse your fumbling of your facts, nor does it somehow make me in the "wrong" for correcting your error.
Learn to deal with your mistakes more gracefully.
She spoke disparagingly of pharmacists who are 'allowed' to follow their consciences and NOT carry the morning after pill, thus thwarting her plan. She was more concerned about something messing up her finely tuned, carefully planned, little life, than accepting this wonderful gift that was given her and her husband. She was so self-centered, that even though she could afford it more than most, she couldn't see what a wonderful opportunity she had to enrich the lives of her children, and the relationship between her and her husband.
Very sad.
Oh my! I'm surprised you can even read these threads from way up there on your self-aggrandizing perch. What possessed you to deign communication with we peons of faith today? Nothing brewing on a crev-evo thread for you to use to insult persons of faith? You're such a transparent liar; a pharmacist has had enough biology and chemistry that your 'acting on myths instead of reality' is obvious not directed at a misreading of the biology ... you tried to pull off your lie, but it was too transparent.
"Those "moral/religious issues" are inexcusable, because they're based on a) gross misunderstandings about how this particular contraception actually works, or b) a "morality" that tries to force their own beliefs about contraception onto other people."
Your argument is stupid. No one is trying to force anything on anyone (except the Washington Post, the left, and apparently yourself). If you continue with this form of "logic", it's like saying every doctor should perform abortions. Some do, but most do not. Doctors and pharmacists are entitled to their own morals and religious beliefs, which are in fact, guaranteed and protected by the Constitution, at least the last time I checked.
Then why include me in the post? Learn how to post.
Your information is wrong. Plan B can prevent ovulation or it can prevent the embryo from implanting after fertilization, in that respect it is an abortofacient.
There is of course a timeline where the former is much more likely than the latter but the notion of informed consent would seem to demand the public know the facts.
The woman is pissed off at conservatives, I wonder who her aborted baby is pissed off at.
