Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, 19, and Syed Haris Ahmed, 21, are accused of traveling [sic] to Canada last March for “terrorism-related planning and co-ordination” with local radicals.

A 21-year-old Georgia Tech student and another man traveled to Canada to meet with Islamic extremists to discuss "strategic locations in the United States suitable for a terrorist strike," according to an affidavit made public Friday. More here

An FBI agent's affidavit accused Sadequee and Ahmed, a 21-year-old Georgia Tech student, of meeting with at least three other targets of the FBI probe during a trip to Canada in March 2005. The men allegedly discussed attacks against oil refineries and military bases and planned to travel to Pakistan to get military training at a terrorist camp. More here

The Globe & Mail reports that the RCMP has decided to emphasize the fact that the suspected terrorists came from a "broad strata" of Canadian society:...The majority sported the traditional Muslim male beard. In fact it takes them six paragraphs before they even name any names. And of course they hasten first to make sure we know most of these men (not yet identified as Islamists) are "young people," shades of the French linguistic obsession with les jeunes, lest we might think them representative of a hostile ideology. This political bowdlerization is accomplished in paragraph four. Think for a moment how the Times would have constructed an article (has constructed many articles) about the malfeasance of US servicemen. They sure wouldn't bury the lede."

Europe faces a similar situation, and now the question will be whether the US has something brewing in its mosques as well. We have already uncovered the Lodi mosque and the father-son jihadi team there. Canada has similar cultural flexibility as the US; to think that this could metastasize there but not here would be foolish indeed.

This is the same substance used by "the despondent" Joel Henry Hinnrichs outside of the Oklahoma University stadium on October 1, 2005 - a blast that was ruled as a "suicide" and unrelated to terrorism.

Canadian Arrests Linked To Arrests In Atlanta

It's now coming out that the recent arrests in Canada are directly linked to previous arrests of two college students in Atlanta, GA - first reported in April. Syed Ahmed and Ehsanul Sadequee were arrested in April for conspiring with others under investigation. Possible American targets, including oil refineries were mentioned at that time. At the time their parents protested their arrests, suggesting it was because they were Muslims. They had traveled to the Middle East for religious education.

From Canada today:

The Canadian investigation involves a complicated web of connections, with alleged ties to two men from Georgia who came to Toronto in March 2005 to meet with "like-minded Islamic extremists," according to U.S. court documents.

Syed Ahmed is a 21-year-old Georgia Tech student, and Ehsanul Sadequee is a 19-year-old from Roswell who was arrested in Bangladesh where his family claims he went to get married. Both men are U.S. citizens. The two knew each other through interaction in Atlanta's growing Muslim community.
