There is MUCH more information in this story by reporter MICHELLE SHEPHARD by 1AM this morning. It seems she had foreknowledge of this bust and kept her mouth shut.
A TERROR RING THAT PLANNED OKLAHOMA-CITY-STYLE BOMBINGS has reportedly been
smashed in Canada. Interestingly, it seems that Internet monitoring played a key role.
UPDATE:
Brendan Loy has more, plus a complaint about Reuters' coverage, which leaves out a lot of details about the Islamist character of the defendants:

Toronto Sun;
Any guesses at how long it takes the usual suspects to a) downplay the story as much ado about nothing, and/or b) weave it into a conspiracy to turn Canada into Shrubhitler's police state. Update; It's already begun.
A news conference will begin shortly. You can listen live at 650 CKOM.
Stephen Taylor has lots more, including a chilling poem from one of the suspects.

Terror raids in Canada, too
Those arrested are "Muslims, but not Arabs." It's nice to see the mainstream media actually making this elementary distinction, which might begin to dispel the calumny that the anti-jihad resistance is "racism."Comments (45)

The National Post also took a look at the Georgia-Canada connection in Terrorisms new guard, published first on May 4, 2006.
Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, 19, and Syed Haris Ahmed, 21, are accused of traveling [sic] to Canada last March for terrorism-related planning and co-ordination with local radicals.

More hereThe NYT has some interesting info tucked away in its report about the arrests. Apparently the Toronto jihadis may have been in contact with some Georgia jihadis:

This, of course, is not the first time Sadequee and Ahmed have appeared in news items at Jihad Watch: ttp://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/011656.php Comments (38) "They include men of Somali, Egyptian, Jamaican, and Trinidadian origin. All are residents of Canada and for the most part all are Canadian citizens, police said."
"Hopefully some taboo topics will be opened. Like open borders. Immigration by Muslims etc., and not a second too late."
As Dan Riehl notes, there is a possible link between the Canadian arrests and two recently indicted jihadi suspects in Georgia. Blogged about them last month:

An FBI agent's affidavit accused Sadequee and Ahmed, a 21-year-old Georgia Tech student, of meeting with at least three other targets of the FBI probe during a trip to Canada in March 2005. The men allegedly discussed attacks against oil refineries and military bases and planned to travel to Pakistan to get military training at a terrorist camp. More here

It appears that there is a global web of terror tied to this most recent bust of 17 Canadian Muslims and the "dirty bomb" bust in London. The weaponry found in these raids are WMD, weapons of mass destruction. Big time. Before these recent raids, there were at least 18 related arrests already taken place in Canada, the United States, Britain, Bosnia, Denmark, Sweden, and Bangladesh. Alleged Canadian terror plot has worldwide links--
The six-month RCMP investigation, called Project OSage, is one of several overlapping probes that include an FBI case called Operation Northern Exposure and a British probe known as Operation Mazhar. There is preliminary indication that some of the Canadian subjects may have had limited contact with the two people recently arrested from Georgia, Special Agent Richard Kolko, the FBI spokesman, said in an e-mail to the National Post.

Broad Strata?
The politically-correct whitewash of the Canadian terror cell has already begun in earnest. The Globe & Mail reports that the RCMP has decided to emphasize the fact that the suspected terrorists came from a "broad strata" of Canadian society:...The majority sported the traditional Muslim male beard. [emphasis mine -- CE]
EUPHEMISM O' THE DAY: "BROAD STRATA"
Oh, dear Lord. A jihadist plot, possibly of global scale, possibly imminent, unravels in Canada...and what do law enforcement officials do? Try to whitewash the obvious jihadi profile from the public's mind.At the press briefing held by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police today, the suspects who appeared in court--all sporting traditional Muslim male beards and requesting Korans--were described as coming from a "broad strata" of society. (Hat tip: reader Ed)
Broad strata.
Yes, the same "broad strata" from which the 9/11 hijackers, 1993 World Trade Center bombers, USS Cole bombers, etc., etc., etc., came.
Allah looks at the "broad strata" of jihadi suspects netted in Toronto who are neither poor nor uneducated nor disenfranchised.
Canada's lax, terror-friendly immigration and asylum policies (and ours) will once again come under scrutiny. More info in Invasion and here; related column here and some blog posts of note. Another column from April 2003:

"I have been watching CTV and CBC news and have to say I am bloody angry. Why can't these folks call it like it is?Not alleged, not ethno-neutral, just bloody terrorists would could have and would have killed a lot of people. Every network should carry the terrorists pictures and the pictures of these guys supporters. Stop beating around the bush and tell like it really is."
The authorities have been tight-lipped about the potential targets of the 17 terrorist suspects arrested in Toronto: The American affidavit provides suggests government and economic targets: With three tonnes of fertilizer, these guys could make a lot of smaller bombs. Comments (6)
ROGER SIMON: "I can't say I'm surprised it took eight paragraphs before the New York Times deigned to tell us what might be behind (have motivated) the arrest of 17 people in Ontario over the last couple of days. In fact it takes them six paragraphs before they even name any names. And of course they hasten first to make sure we know most of these men (not yet identified as Islamists) are "young people," shades of the French linguistic obsession with les jeunes, lest we might think them representative of a hostile ideology. This political bowdlerization is accomplished in paragraph four. Think for a moment how the Times would have constructed an article (has constructed many articles) about the malfeasance of US servicemen. They sure wouldn't bury the lede."
UPDATE: The sounds of silence.

Canada terror suspects may have had US contacts --Syed Haris Ahmed, 21, of Atlanta, Georgia, Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, 19...Sadequee and Ahmed traveled to Canada on March 13, 2005, to meet with Islamic extremists, according to a U.S. Justice Department statement.
Of the seventeen, 12 have been publicly identified, while five are apparently underage. The identified suspects are: ( uh, Muslims... ) read link:
Europe faces a similar situation, and now the question will be whether the US has something brewing in its mosques as well. We have already uncovered the Lodi mosque and the father-son jihadi team there. Canada has similar cultural flexibility as the US; to think that this could metastasize there but not here would be foolish indeed.
Keep an eye on Stephen Taylor's blog for further updates, and I'm certain Steve Janke will also be all over this.
UPDATE: As will Kate at Small Dead Animals. Confederate Yankee wonders whether a 'domestic spying" effort helped root these terrorists out.
Contrary to the official explanation, there is a strong indication that the explosive substance TATP (triacetone triperoxide), also known as the Mother of Satan and a homemade and very unstable explosive was used in this blast. This is the same substance used by "the despondent" Joel Henry Hinnrichs outside of the Oklahoma University stadium on October 1, 2005 - a blast that was ruled as a "suicide" and unrelated to terrorism.
If people don't think we have illegal crossings from Canada as well, they are SORELY mistaken. And thus far, that border has been the choice of the ROP.
FBI's Mueller: Hezbollah Busted in Mexican Smuggling Operation
During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Illegals from terrorist nations are crossing the border into Arizona.

Good Work! There's more information here than in most books. BTW, given this quote:
"Those arrested are "Muslims, but not Arabs." It's nice to see the mainstream media actually making this elementary distinction, which might begin to dispel the calumny that the anti-jihad resistance is "racism." The MSM will have to invent a new word - religism, to add to racism, sexism, homophobes..... to describe the hate filled thoughts of the right.

Canadian Arrests Linked To Arrests In AtlantaIt's now coming out that the recent arrests in Canada are directly linked to previous arrests of two college students in Atlanta, GA - first reported in April. Syed Ahmed and Ehsanul Sadequee were arrested in April for conspiring with others under investigation. Possible American targets, including oil refineries were mentioned at that time. At the time their parents protested their arrests, suggesting it was because they were Muslims. They had traveled to the Middle East for religious education.
From Canada today:
The Canadian investigation involves a complicated web of connections, with alleged ties to two men from Georgia who came to Toronto in March 2005 to meet with "like-minded Islamic extremists," according to U.S. court documents.
Syed Ahmed is a 21-year-old Georgia Tech student, and Ehsanul Sadequee is a 19-year-old from Roswell who was arrested in Bangladesh where his family claims he went to get married. Both men are U.S. citizens. The two knew each other through interaction in Atlanta's growing Muslim community.
