Illegals' tax deal could kill bill
The Washington Times ^ | Charles Hurt

Posted on 06/02/2006 4:20:55 AM PDT by 2NY

The long-fought Senate immigration bill that opponents say grants amnesty to 10 million illegal aliens is unconstitutional and appears headed for certain demise, Senate Republicans now say. A key feature of the Senate bill is that it would make illegals pay back taxes before applying for citizenship, a requirement that supporters say will raise billions of dollars in the next decade. There's just one problem: The U.S. Constitution specifically prohibits revenue-raising legislation from originating in the Senate.

You are ahead of yourself. The article is about returning the bill back to the Senate and they're all arguing over what procedures to use. Looks like the bill won't even make it to conference. It's gotten balled up in procedural wrangling, and for that I agree with 2NY and say: Whatever it takes!

Since current immigration laws aren't being enforced at all, in order to get amnesty for our "guest workers" what will happen is they will be required to fulfill several onerous conditions, much more complicated than simply arresting and deporting them, which they will simply ignore.
This can be seen on the face of the Senate bill, but our Fearless Leaders continue with this charade, apparently thinking that we are sheep, while they are the sheepdogs.

I agree - massive increases in LEGAL immigration will free up Border Patrol and other law enforcement to focus on said REAL criminals.

I'm not sure what you are responding to, but your response doesn't make sense. It has nothing to do with what I posted. No one has advocated 'massive increases in LEGAL immigration'.

Your response is a typical ploy when one lacks a viable position -- switch the topic, change the argument, obfuscate the issue being discussed.

Actually you are wrong. If existing laws were being enforced, we wouldn't have 18 to 20 million illegals running around our country.

......the middle class doesn't even know what the EIC is because they've never qualified for it.......the true travesty of any bill that would legalize the illegal immigrants is that THEY WOULD THEN QUALIFY FOR ALL GOVERNMENT FREEBIES. THEY WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR AFFIRMITIVE ACTION. THEY COULD NEVER PAY ENOUGH IN TAXES TO FUND WHAT THEY WOULD USE.

This is massive government fraud being perpetrated on a grand scale, that should be met with every penalty the US DOJ can mete out.

Of course, the amnesty bill does not meet Constitutional muster-----El Presidente Vicente, and the reconquista groups which wrote the 423 pp monstrosity Senate bill behind closed doors, could care less about the US Constitution.

They want only to get their greedy hands on the US treasury and to take over the US government with the vote, or by violence, if necessary (their own words and signage at the recent protests).

BTW, using multiple IDs the invaders collect multiple $4500-$5400 EICs from the IRS by declaring several names/jobs - just by going $1 over the income limit. They also line up for EINs, ITINs, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, welfare and food stamps. Taxpayers are subsidizing immigrants' daily food intake, housing, reduced mortgages, free medical care, free education, reduced in-state tuition and out of state tuition.

We also foot the legal bills when they start suing if we don't provide these goodies pronto......etc., etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseaum.

That explains why they take so-called "low pay" jobs. The US taxpayer is subsidizing their every need 24/7, morn til night.

"WHY are criminals being treated to a golden key to America? Is this making any sense to anyone at all???"

"Two possibilities: (1) we need more bodies to pay into the failing Social Security system; (2) they really don't intend to pass any bill at all. It's a big show, with status quo as the outcome."

Yup, and congress is being paid off, by businesses for CHEAP labor!

Unless you state otherwise, I will take your "absurd" as a "no" answer to my question. Thank you very much for being so "polite".

6 million illegal aliens expelled since Bush took office = current immigration laws aren't being enforced "at all"?

Actually, the original Senate bill could have allowed 214 legal aliens within the next 20 years - now, I believe the limit is 72 million - ask anyone here if that is "massive" or not.

If you want the states to appoint the Senators as was intended then that could be done but it's going to take a constitutional change. If and until that happens though 6 years is still way too long of a term imo as this immigration debacle proves. They are acting as elitists who care little for the well being of this country.

At least there are 6 million less illegal aliens, since those were expelled from the U.S. in the last 6 years. Do you think ANY law in the U.S. is "fully enforced"? Even murder laws are not "fully enforced".

I didn't mumble. Why are you in favor of our laws being broken by illegal Mexican aliens, clawrence?
"Give them amnesty, then citizenship."? Are you one of those hysterical, thread-jumping pro-amnesty `Me too!' robots?

Scrutinize those reports heavily.

I have. They're 100 percent true.

I stand by my assertion.

5 million have crossed our border since 9/11. Not exactly a shining example of "we are doing everything we can to protect America".

This explains why illegals creep across the desert to take so-called "low pay" jobs. The US taxpayer is subsidizing their every need 24/7, morn til night:

Using phony SS3's, forged documents, and multiple IDs the invaders collect multiple $4500-$5400 EICs from the IRS by declaring several names/jobs - just by going $1 over the income limit. They also line up for EINs, ITINs, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, welfare and food stamps. Because most are not breaking serious laws and the U.S. economy depends on cheap labor. Now, can you answer my question - you were the one who said "at all".
