A lot of the stink comes from the US media.

I'll settle for a presumption of innocence...

I fully agree, and that's the point I'm trying to make on other forums. But you know how the anti-military types are.

>>>Let's hope this proves our Marines are innocent.<<<

You could have Haditha residents swearing on the Koran that US troops did not kill anyone that wasn't a combatant, and the American MSM and John Murtha and his Democrat "America Is Wrong" types will never stop trying them in the press!

It is they that should go on trial.....

At the rate they're going with all those names, for all the witnesses to be correct four Marines will have killed the entire nation of Iraq six times over, including the 'witnesses.'

Of course, some of these may be aliases, for according to some unwritten rule every Muslim has to have more names than he can count on his fingers and toes, so it's going to be a while before we can even sort out who died once under different names, or should I say which names died for each body. And then we will have to figure out which alias was killed for each person still breathing and if they have any live aliases left over.

Insurgents kill innocents every day over there. They behead people, they shoot them in the head and dump the bodies or just plain "blow them up". Where's Murtha's outrage??

We have family here visiting so I've not been able to keep up with new reports coming out about this story.

Since the military has been investigating for a month or so, how is it they can know much of ANYTHING without having examined the bodies? I thought this had already happened and forensic evidence had matched bullets, etc.

Since even this most basic evidence-gathering has not happened, it's really shocking that Murtha has felt so comfortable jumping to conclusions.

I will say that I think the left was emboldened when the Bush administration did not defend itself or the military against the trumped up Abu Graib charges. There was absolutely no torture that went on in that prison that we know about, but we have military men and women and the president apologizing all over the place.

I have not idea since very little has been reported and it's only recently more details are emerging

But I will say this .. things are not adding up and the charges against the Marines smell

It seems all I ever say to you is 'thank you' : )

"These include Marines giving false statements and officers in the chain of command not providing proper oversight in the weeks and months that followed."

I will, again, remind anyone coming across my post that a propane tank exploding as a result of a grenade would be an IED- and that this, apparently, is the crux of the 'false statement'. Anyone who thinks an IED is something that must be buried in the road to ignite and explode a humvee, should think a little harder.

I don't know why this hasn't been mentioned before (maybe it has, just not in public). Let's see if these wounds were from 7.62x39 (AK47) or a .223 (M16).

If they're 7.62 - Murtha can eat sh*t and die.

An aside -- I've only seen a couple pis of the alleged cartridge casings posted and they 'looked like' 7.62 to me.

Very interesting about the bodies not being examined. I think there are two strong possibilities that will occur (not related directly to the Marines themselves.)

First, if the evidence is found insufficient to convict the Marines, the press and Murtha have still laid the groundwork to insinuate the Marines were guilty. In the liberal court of media and moveon-speak they are already guilty and always will be and the insufficience of evidence will be pointed to as a coverup and rationale for it.

Secondly, I expect that the heads of whoever was responsible for not reporting the incident earlier, or incorrectly reporting it, will roll.

I again state my hypothesis that we are seeing some staging of incidents intended to create and add to the multiple "mean military" stories that are coming out daily at this time. It seems to be a full court press.

Gun Related Question:

How easy is it to differentiate between the bullets fired by guns used by our Marines and the enemy in this situation? I would assume they are using AK-47s, mostly.

Murtha, Chris Matthews, and the Dems don't care about the validity of the charges nor the final outcome of the trial. Right now they desperately need a club to beat the Administration with up to the elections, and given the length of time even Military investigations and trials proceed, and the uncertainty (they said, we said) of the set of circumstances underwhich this occurred, the Left has had a tailor-made controversy put into their hands.

Aine Donovan, director of the Ethics Institute at Dartmouth College and a former Naval Academy professor, said Marines have more ethics training than most troops and that there is no excuse for what happened.

"If you look at what happened in Haditha, you had soldiers stressed to the point of no return, and they snapped," Donovan said. "This will be remembered as the worst episode of this war. This will damage the entire profession. You're never going to restore peace by killing civilians."

President Bush said yesterday that the training "is just a reminder for troops either in Iraq or throughout our military that there are high standards expected of them, and that there are strong rules of engagement."

Bush added that "if there is wrongdoing, people will be held to account," and said the nation has "a willingness to deal with issues like this in an upfront way and an open way and correct problems."

Obviously, Anie Donovan's statment presuppose that the Marines massacred these people. Contrast that to President Bush's finely crafted statement that expresses in strongest terms the US Military's committment to appropriate Rules of Engagement and justice, without prejudging the troops.

Let's hope this proves our Marines are innocent.

You got that right. Please-oh-please-oh-please-oh-please! Not only would help the mission, but I would really enjoy seeing Rep. Murtha's nuts being kicked up into his throat.

The holes in the walls and or bones (if the bodies are exhumed) will be of distinctive size.

As many have pointed out, this won't mean jack anyway. The country overflows with AK-47s and plenty of insurgents have AR-15 or similar. In the end, the Predator video and the testimony of the Marines will determine what actually happened.

Trial? Evidence? I thought Murtha and the NY Times already had these guys convicted.

Yeah ... according to Murtha and the NYTimes it's a foregone conclusion, string'em up.
