Family of slain Marine doubts Haditha reports (New interview + great tribute)

EL PASO, Texas - Lance Cpl. Miguel Terrazas’ bedroom is nothing short of a shrine to the Marine whose death in an Iraqi roadside explosion preceded a firefight that now is the focus of a criminal investigation.

His dress blue uniform, complete with his ceremonial Marine Corps sword, hangs in a cherry wood display case. His medals, including the Purple Heart awarded after his death, sit below his jacket.

“It’s very hard for me, I don’t even listen to the news,” Terrazas said of reports of the mass killings.

‘Those Marines just did their job’

Marine officials initially gave the same story, that 15 civilians were killed Nov. 19 in the explosion and a subsequent firefight that also killed eight insurgents. Several months later Time magazine and then Arab television stations obtained a videotape of the scene, showing the bodies of women and children. The video, Iraqis’ accounts of the day and other emerging details sparked a criminal investigation.

Terrazas said he has met with many from his son’s unit who told him they did only what was necessary to survive. He wouldn’t say when he spoke with them.

“Those Marines just did their job,” he said. “Some of these kids were saying, ‘We have to live with it.’”

Former Marine Luis Terrazas, Miguel’s uncle, said Marines are trained to stay cool under pressure.

“Jarheads don’t just go out and kill because they get frustrated,” Luis Terrazas said. “Their training is exquisite. It just doesn’t make sense.”

There are many Hispanics who serve in our armed forces.

I've seen plenty of Hispanic names among the names of the KIA in Iraq and Afganistan. They loved this country and defended it, and I honor them for it.

I just went to Michelle Malkin's blog, and found her comments on Haditha...one of the Marine names she mentioned sounded familiar, but she had the Ohio town slightly screwed up. I did a search in our local paper, and sure enough I found the accounts from last Nov.:Sgt. Jeremy Murray of n.e. Ohio was one of those killed in the initial roadside bomb attack.

Not sure if this same paper has picked up on these latest developments...we'll see tomorrow, I guess.

Sgt. Murray was buried last Nov in the National Cemetery at Rittman,OH.

Let us not mistake the Hispanic Americans who serve our country proudly & bravely in the armed services with the "MS13" gangsta types who are the scum of the earth or the illegals who are here ILLEGALLY taking advantage of our generosity and lack of LAW ENFORCEMENT.

I served with Hispanic American Marines in Viet Nam and they were and are some of the finest and bravest Marines the Corps has ever produced.

That was one of the claims made by those who seem to "know" what the report on Hidatha is going to say even before it is finished. They claim "a woman and child were shot while kneeling in prayer" . One of those rumors or accusations that is just being repeated as "Fact" by those who have appointed themselves the Marines Judge and Jury before even ONE fact is made public.
