Democrat Rep. John "Cut and Run" Murtha thinks he knows the truth about Haditha -- and he has been blabbing it to every last cable show host that will host him. The loose-lipped former Marine has accused troops of wantonly killing some two dozen civilians, including children, "in cold blood" in the terrorist stronghold in Iraq last November. There are two ongoing military investigations into the incident itself and the actions of higher-ups in the Haditha aftermath.
Let me repeat that: The investigations are ongoing. Not complete. Official reports aren't expected for several weeks.
I do not know the truth about Haditha. Neither do Murtha and the media outlets calling the alleged massacre a massacre before all the facts are in. It would be helpful if they could handle these grave charges without serving as al Jazeera satellite offices. GOP Sen. John Warner, who like Murtha also served in the Marines, struck the right tone over the weekend -- refusing, unlike Murtha, to render a verdict against the Marines before trial and avoiding Bush Derangement Syndrome, but also taking the allegations very seriously.
I do know this. Children are dead. Other children have been orphaned. There are pictures of bullet holes and bloodied homes. There are evolving stories about what happened last Nov. 19 and serious allegations of a possible cover-up.
I also know this: Lance Cpl. Miguel Terrazas, the Marine who was killed by a roadside IED (improvised explosive device) that day, followed a proud family tradition of military service. He had received a commendation for bravery on his first tour of duty in Iraq in 2004. One of his fellow Marines said Terrazas's body was split in two by the bomb explosion that rocked his Hummer while on patrol that morning.

Amen! You're right - too much time in LaLaLand. My father-in-law is a jarhead - never served in combat tho. God Bless You!
????
If Murtha opened his traitorous trap like this in WW11, he would be on the wrong end of some serious a*s whopping
I know that a Marine is never considered and "EX" or a "former" - once a Marine, always a Marine.
But in this case = absolutely = and he should get a cancellation of his Marine title - he is indeed, an "EX"
I beieve MM is conservative (plus cute). She is also brave. Even bore up under the spittle of Chris Matthews once.
IN addition, this was in CNN - amazing it even got printed = who knows what might have been edited out - or if her job with CNN is going to be short lived.
So, are you saying that you have gotten used to atrocities like the Rape of Nanking and the killings at My Lai 4?
I accept them as the results of war. Atrocities yes, but certainly part of war.
In the case if Haditha, returning overwhelming fire on a building, home or compound, even when civilians are present, is completely within the law.
A fact overlooked by the main stream media and the left wing blow hards is that these same laws of war prohibit using civilians and civilian objects and facilities as cover. The blame for the Haditha deaths lies with those initiating hostilities, the terrorists, not those responding.
I think that this is war. War not played by rules laid down in some gentlemen's agreement. So stop pretending it it.
The criticism of our military, and specifically, our Marines, (and more to the point, our children) is being handed out by those who have not the courage to walk a mile in those soldier's shoes.
Those criticizing have done, or will do, the least in times of defense. They take the short way out, the short cuts, the ass-kissing.
These are not real men. They are like many you meet on the streets, nowadays. Lot's of mouth, little action. Except for reaching into your pocket.
These , loudmouths, if I may, use the misfortunes of war to line their pockets and stuff their shirt, (and now even, their socks and pants) in their pursuit of greed.
They have shown what they are. I know what our military, our Marines, are.
I cannot imagine anyone who does not owe, everything that we have, everything that we are, to the lost lives of our strongest, our best, young men and women who have little to say, yet they put their very life on the line, for you.
War can be conducted in a relatively humane fashion and I believe our war fighters are even more humane than most.
I think you are probably right that our men and women are more humane than most. But that does not stop war from being an difficult and emotional place where all sorts of people get hurt for all sorts of reasons. War is part of the human condition. We are fighting people who want to win at any cost. We on the other hand, do not.
Amen.
"Former Marine" is the "approved" term for someone out of the Corps, a veteran. Some retired Marines use that term as well. "EX-Marine" is an insult reserved for Lee H. Oswald, Clayton Lonetree, Jack Murtha and a few select others.
The fact that in the long and distinguished history of the Marines we can only point to a handful of bad apples says it all. That Ex-Marine Murtha would use something like this as a political tool is truly one of the most reprehensible acts I've ever witnessed from a US Congressman - and that's saying ALOT...
Hi ya Gunny. I personally use the term "recovering Marine!" :-D Semper Fi!
