I know that a Marine is never considered and "EX" or a "former" - once a Marine, always a Marine. "Former Marine" is the "approved" term for someone out of the Corps, a veteran. Some retired Marines use that term as well. "EX-Marine" is an insult reserved for Lee H. Oswald, Clayton Lonetree, Jack Murtha and a few select others.

That Ex-Marine Murtha would use something like this as a political tool is truly one of the most reprehensible acts I've ever witnessed from a US Congressman - and that's saying ALOT...
