WASHINGTON - Military investigators piecing together what happened in the Iraqi town of Al-Hadithah on Nov. 19, 2005 -- when Marines allegedly killed two dozen civilians -- have access to video shot by a pilotless aircraft that was circling overhead for at least part of that day, military defense attorneys familiar with the case said in interviews.
It is unclear whether the video obtained from that day's flight captured the violence, said the attorneys, who have consulted with Marines who were there. One attorney said investigators have reviewed surveillance footage taken hours after the shootings, which showed the Marines returning to the town to remove the bodies of the Iraqis.
Monday, Marine Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said charges will be issued if the evidence merits it. For now, ``it would be premature for me to judge'' the outcome of the two U.S. military investigations, Pace said on CBS's ``The Early Show.''

The discipline under fire our Marines show day in and day out should be praised from the rooftops of Congress and the News outlets. Instead we get wicked idiots like Murtha and Pinchy calling our men murderers.
For the same reasons the Duke University LaCrosse team is still going to trial.
the MSM has nevertheless run hundreds and hundreds of headlining stories about the case, without seeking any contrarian points of view.
The MSM is effective, even on the skeptics. For there is no case, right? AFAIK there's an investigation, but no case.
And it won't work, regardless of the investigation's conclusions. Because we won't let it.
the media creation is the spin on the story - its been cast instantly as a "war crime", "murders", "reprisal killings" - and let's not forget the "bodies found kneeling, as if in prayer".
that's the media creation, which unfortunately, a rather large group of freepers have bought into.
I'm convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that the internal enemies of this country are far, far more dangerous than Al Quaeda.
That Duke lacrosse case is possibly the biggest case of prosecutorial misconduct I've ever seen.
bttt
But, with that handicap, tell me how you spin the story any differently? I mean, you can call all of the survivors, including the children, bald-faced liars, and you can presume that the military relieved the officers and opened two separate investigations for no reason solely because of the pressure of 'media spin,' and you can discount the fact that many of the statements from Congressmen are derived from official briefings on the incident, but how do you put a halfway-decent face on the facts are reported? And should we even try?
No it's not meaningless! The compensation was for wrongful death. There were no arms in those 2 homes. That's already been determined by the Corps.
" we will probably pay compensation for the truck accident in Afghanistan over the weekend too"
As we should.
"it does not in any way imply the the murder charge is true."
I didn't say it did. The present investigations are to determine why those people were killed.
This might be the article that p. henry was talking about:
Iraqis' Accounts Link Marines to the Mass Killing of Civilians
From this story, published yesterday:
I'm sure there are a few folks who have spent decades in prison before they were cleared who might disagree with you.
So is the GWOT a waste of precious resources, or should we turn the power of the state even more heavily on those you consider our internal enemies?
No one is suggesting it is simply a "media creation". What we are suggesting is that, like usual, the MSM has a very negative slant. And is dogpiling on it just like Bush-National Guard/Iraq Wedding Party Massacre/Lt Pantano/Cheney Drinking while hunting, etc, etc.
This post caught the Mercury News redhanded removing a charge that Murtha was wrong from an article from the Wa. Post.
The delusional thing is for anyone to deny the presumption of innocence that was a media creation. Also there are many who jump in and criticize these Marines that don't know anything other than what has been reported by a biased media.
They are transfered, not removed for lack of confidence.
Most freepers oughta know better, by now.
Different era, different graphics. Back in 1961 Hollywood couldn't afford realistic effects, besides, blood and gore, especially American blood and gore wasn't something the public was willing to see. About that time the movie business was pretty much on the rocks because of television and wasn't about to force the issue.
#1. I clearly said that I'm talking about cases that I've followed and heard of, not some unknown case from 20-30 years ago before court cases became media fodder.
#2. Plenty of legal analysts have said they think this is one of the worst cases of prosecutorial misconduct they've ever seen, and those of us following the case closely agree with them. For once.
#3. There are some innocent people in prison and DNA has cleared them; since DNA wasn't available years ago and there was evidence pointing to their guilty, I don't think you can quite compare the Duke lacrosse case to those older cases.
Let me guess, they did not publish the name of the Iraqi reporter/historian so we could all evaluate his previous unbiased work?
