U.S. SENATORS WHO VOTED 'NO' ON S.2611, AGAINST AMNESTY ... 32 R 4 D
Senators' Websites ^ | May 29, 2006 | La Enchiladita

Posted on 05/29/2006 11:08:27 PM PDT by La Enchiladita

What follows is a listing of the Senators who voted AGAINST the S. 2611 amnesty bill. I have expanded the list to include each Senator's comments specific to the legislation, where available, and listed the link to their e-mail address or contact form.

I have now sent a message of "Thank You" and support to each one. I hope many of you will want to do the same in greater of lesser degree, perhaps contacting only your own Senator and a few others, hopefully all. I tried to make it *easy* for you.

WHY DO SO? Many of these Senators will be in 'conference' with House members and need to know they did the right thing and please continue. 'Thank You' is an affirmation to all that they did the right thing if and when similarly unacceptable legislation returns to the Senate for a vote.

Or, please add your thoughts of why this is a good action.

Just Piper has researched and compiled similar information on members of the House Immigration Caucus, for which I hope she will create a thread also when we know who will be conferees.

You realize the list provided is of those who voted AGAINST S. 2611, i.e., amnesty?

....they sounded like even-handed Statesmen, and the kind of Senators we deserve.

If only this weren't so unusual, and if only they weren't in the minority.

"If" is a big word, as my Mom always said.

It's a bit more of a *chore* to write the Dems, I agree.

BUMP!

"Senator John Ensign (R-NV)

“I have many reasons for voting against this bill but the granting of amnesty to those who have committed identity theft and the rewarding of benefits for that illegal act is the most egregious,” Ensign said. “We should not grant illegal immigrants special consideration to which legal immigrants and American citizens are not entitled.”

The Senate when they passed this bill put the special interests of the corporations ahead of the special interests of the citizens of the United States

That's exactly right. The majority of Senators are pretending to be concerned about the welfare of the immigrants and their value to our economy, but in reality they're catering to the interests of big agri-business and construction industries which are profiting immensely from the cheap illegal labor force.

The big shots who live in Manhattan penthouses and gated nature preserves in CA aren't bothered by the prospect of the estimated 70-100 million more poor, uneducated, diseased immigrants that will be crowded into the US and onto our already overburdened welfare and health care systems within the next 10-15 years if the Senate bill is accepted by the House. My Congressman is pretty well aligned with my view on this issue, but I am going keep his line hot if and when the bill comes up for a floor vote with the amnesty provision still in it just to be sure he hangs tough when the administration and the GOP party apparatus puts the pressure on. I urge everyone who is concerned about this critical issue to do the same, the House is now our only hope of killing this monster.

Grassley and Hatch don't inspire total confidence either, could be political motivation on this vote.

Not could be, I'm pretty sure it was their motivation. Both are normally right down the line with the so-called leadership.

But I don't really care what motivated them, I just care that they did what they know their constituents wanted. The rest of the Repubs and most of the Democrats didn't, and for that the Repubs deserve to be replaced in the next primary by people who will and the Democrats deserve to be replaced by honest and intelligent humans, IOW by people who aren't liberal Democrats.

ON the Other hand:...
Whats to STOP the States from passing laws that require State citizens and visitors to be LEGAL residents and/or vistors of this country?..

OR EVEN Citys to pass CODES that require Property Managers and Real Estate brokers/agents to insure proper ID. of all renters and prospective sellers and buyers..

The police already ID citizens and its illegal to have forged or false ID.. You will be fined or WORSE if YOUR CAR, TRAILER, BOAT, or RV IS ILLEGAL..

The States and Citys could do MUCH toward this end..

I read something on another thread where the feds are expressly trying to stop action on the parts of state and local governments. Sorry, don't have time to look for it now, but it's no surprise, eh?

Thanks, I just sent Senator Cornyn a note. His role on the conference committee will be crucial.

Illegal insurgency is well thought out.. planned.. and ON PURPOSE...

Only thing NOT clear is just how completely have the voting machines been corrupted..

Gee, I'm not surprised to see our Senators from Maryland voted "yea" for amnesty! We've been controlled by liberal democRATs for eons! God help us!

When I read some of the common sense responses from those Republicans it makes me want to move to their state!

Thanks for the post.

These Republicans and Democrats should be lauded and supported by all FReepers.

They certainly have my support for standing against such a horrendous piece of Shamnesty legislation.

I'll take them into consideration. Although, I've been eyeing Georgia. I've been reading a few nice things by their Republicans. Plus if I go near the mountains it won't be so hot!

Wyoming? Have to check out the annual temps! But, that is an attractive alternative!

Wyoming can be very windy.
We have lots of nice FReepers in GA.

I've always wanted to go to NC, but have been hearing nice things from Georgia. Maybe by the time I decide we'll have some nice stuff going on in NC.
