For a long time, Democrats have been picking on President Bush -- "King George" -- for "consolidating executive authority" and usurping legislative authority, not to mention tons of other things. But he does himself no favors by ordering that documents seized from Representative William Jefferson's office be sealed for 45 days.
Jefferson is the subject of a federal investigation into whether he accepted a bribe from two people -- who have already entered guilty pleas -- to promote a high-tech business venture. Authorities say they have a videotape of Jefferson receiving a $100,000 bribe and that they found $90,000 in cash in a freezer at his Washington D.C. apartment.
Last Saturday night, the FBI, with a duly executed search warrant in hand, entered and searched Jefferson's Capitol Hill office and seized a number of his documents. Members of both parties of Congress expressed outrage at what they claim is an egregious violation of the separation of powers doctrine.
The FBI, of course, is part of the executive branch. The congressmen's objection is that for an agency of the executive branch to raid the office of a member of the legislative branch, constitutes a dangerous executive encroachment on the legislature. They say this is the first search of a congressman's Capitol office in the more than two centuries since the first Congress convened.

Wonder if they would be screamling like little b!tches if Jefferson had 5 kilos of herion in a safe verses the money? Bunch of pompus ass fools! Throw all the Bums OUT!
Hey, these are Democrats we're talking about! They'd simply cite "personal use" for the 5 kilos of heroin. They lie shamelessly.
I like your points on this. As for President Bush, on the one hand I don't like him sealing the documents for 45 days. On the other hand, regarding the Democrats and their abortive attack on the Republicans as the party of corruption, I dare them to demand that the documents be unsealed.
Sounds like to me that such searches are way the hell over due. The division of powers was intended to protect the citizens of the USA, not shield crooks in congress from justice and place them above the laws they themselves enact.
I believe we need to enact a law that requires every politician in DC, from the President on down to address you and me as boss and show proper respect. They work for us and it's about time we made them aware of that fact.
Something smells to high heaven. Did you ever wonder what happened to Cynthia McKinney or Congressman Kennedy, How did Sandy Berger get away with treason? We all know the ethics committee is a trading area that is used to cover up the problems.
My question is what have the Republicans done that allows the Democrats to ignore the Law.

PING to this article:
Exactomundo! That's your "Two-Party Cartel".
LOL. That's the traditional moderate stance.
Time to send Hasert back down to the farm team.
That's from the David Limbaugh article.
From the article you linked, I see the CBC is trying to intimidate and blackmail Pelosi; if there's a more racist group of people in the country, I've yet to read about them.
Didn't even mention the Debate Clause at all.
Of course he couldn't could he?
On the fun side, President Bush gets to play the referee by locking up the evidence for 45 days...evidence that the FBI has had access to for several days now.
I am not sure this is a good idea. 45 days from now will be appox mid July. They will play with this for two weeks and then go on their summer break for thirty plus days until after Labor Day and by then not a peep. I just don't know why they don't just settle it now and allow it to fester through the entire summer into mid-term elections. Republicans need something to fight for this election and that could be one thing.
