- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...
"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.
And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

I'm sure it lowers gas usage, but it will take so much long to get anywhere!
The speed limit between LA and Las Vegas is 70 or 75 (I have done this trip many times), but I go about 80-85 and seems that most folks just blow by me, anyway.
Going 55 for that stretch sounds absurd to me. Plus, most people will be going 80-90 anyway.

I'm currently driving an early 80s chevy 3/4 ton with no radio, no carpet, no power steering, vinyl seat, no headliner, no third brake light, no airconditioning, no hubcaps...
You're bringing tears to my eyes! I recently sold an early 80s 3/4 ton 4X4 with all of the above and bought my first new vehicle in 22 years (another 4X4). It has a computer and bells going off all the time. Don't know what they all mean.

I'd like to find one with a good body on it. But I don't want anything with a lift kit or a hot rodded motor or tinted windows or highdollar stereo. I hate that. I'm almost certain every old chevy out there with a decent body on it has been hot rodded.
Also It's gotta have a stickshift. It doesn't HAVE to have 4x4 though.
I'll even go with an old ford if it's original and in good shape. I like the 68-78 ford F100 with a 300six 4onthefloor...won't haul as much but runs forever, real simple to work on, and pretty good fuel mileage.

Having rented a new car on my last vacation, one that had all sorts of read outs on speed and fuel efficiency, my best results came out on the open road doing 70-75 mph. Even nudging it up to 80 mph didn't signify a decline in efficiency.
I pay for my own fuel and the taxes too. I pay out of pocket for my personal transportation and the fees and expenses such entailed, as do we all.......and we all pay for idiot politicians' travel and extended costs for their entourage, also out of pocket.
If Hillary wants to do something useful, she can wash my van......cuts down on the drag.

The 5 speed automatic in my Accord has switched up to 5th and the torque converter locked up by the time I reach about 45 mph, if just cruising on a level road.I've got 2 more gears at 45. Fourth shifts at 47 and 5th at 62.
Not being a trucker I can't comment on the trucker complaint but I do remember them doing so.

Hillary has a fleet of large suv's where ever she goes ( built and paid for by us taxpayers) .
We pay for the gas too.
She gets free meals for herself and the hangers-on from restaurant owners.
She is such a ' gifter ' that she will not even tip the waitress.

Wonderful. That damn 55 MPH speed limit arrived just as I got my license in 1973. The freeways are 75 MPH in Idaho, much of Utah and Nevada. That helps when you have a 900+ mile drive to San Diego. The 55 MPH is total BS. That control freak Hillary can't wait to screw things up.

Fifty-five for the little people.
She Who Must Be Oyveyyed will roar through Berlin in her armored Mercedes at one hundred twenty kilometers per hour, scaring the horses, leaving the children as road kill, taking the village in standard blitzkrieg fashion.
But, yes, fifty-five. . .for the little people. . . .

On a ten hour drive...with an extra 20 mph average ( 55 versus 75 ) is an extra 200 miles per day.

Yes, when Hillary says, "I will take things from you" she is planning to enrich herself the whole while.

Well, this will certainly make her popular out west.
Every single driver will be a criminal.
Keep it up, Hitlery! Try to lower it to 50 and get even more popular!
