- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...
"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.
And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

Liberals think they know better than every one else what's best for us - and Washington knows better than the states do about maximum freeway speed limits.

Hillary is advocating a national depression. The loss of productivity resulting from the slow down will increase the price of everything for sale everywhere.
She is a tool of the unions that want the increase in wages that will result from the across the boards slow down.
Hillary the marxist student is the adult enemy of the economy.

Liberals can not take care of themselves, so they can not imagine that we can take care of ourselves.
Second, we do a better job of meeting our own needs than any DUmmie politican...

Hillary won't be the nominee, and if she is, she won't win.

This stupidity on Hillary's part must have the Democrat hierarchy in apoplexy. There is no better way to lose every state south of Maryland and west of Pennsylvania (and I include California, Oregon, and Washington) than to propose reimpositon of the 55 mph speed limit. A RINO like Giuliani or McCain would score a 400+ electoral vote victory, and 55%+ in the popular vote. Frankly, they could ignore the Christian Right or limited government conservatives, for an opponent this far out of touch with electoral reality would not impel Giuliani or McCain to worry about them.
Maybe the MSM/Democrat promotion of Senator Obama is more than a idle thought on their part.

That's just dumber that dirt.
Very inefficient, time wise. My time is worth much more to me than the cost savings derived from driving @ 55. And anyway, whether or not I drive 55, with my Jetta TDI, there is no appreciable difference in mileage. I get approx 45 MPG on trips driving @ 80 MPH.
