- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...
"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.
And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

Only if those responsible for upholding the law actually enforce it.
The western side of North Dakota is a veritable speed trap. I was headed to Minot, North Dakota several years ago, and was the only one on the highway it seemed, and all of a sudden a cop car came over a hill, turned his lights on, pulled me over. I was going 65 in an unposted 55 MPH stretch of 2-lane highway about 3 hours west of Minot.
I believe it was passed about '73 or '74 as a result of an Arab oil crisis. I think it was a Nixon abomination.
It was during my freshman year in college, which was 73-74, so that would have been Nixon.
Heck, the women in Wyoming seem to drive faster than the men.
This women is as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to political skills. How exactly is this going to sell in flyover country, surely setting speed limits is not going to attract voters.
Yep. They always have new (and old) ways to make us suffer. They turned the Highway Patrol into glorified tax collectors back in the 1970's. Nixon did that the year he resigned.
Hillary and her ilk always want more of our money for themselves to spend.
God I wish she would stick a sock in that big mouth of hers. Amen.
Stanley, Tioga, and Ray are the only speed zones I know of there once you get clear of Minot, besides Williston.
Unless you were waay up north and heading west along the high line, that is.
"If she runs for President on this platform, she might carry New York."
I wouldn't bet on that, She has been pooled in NY as possibly not being able to carry the state in a Pres election. Amen.
My car doesn't shift into 5th gear until about 62 mph.
If I drive 55 I'll actually use more fuel.
"....and the people will accept it,..."
NO!
I get great fuel economy at 80MPH with my turbo diesel. F-Her.
NOW IT'S COME FULL CIRCLE. Richard Nixon imposed the disgusting 55mph speed limit in 1974.
This was a period in time when he was being hunted down and successfully eliminated by what took the entire Village of Watergate mob. Playing a prominent role was a young elite lesbian lawyer named Hillary "Butch" Rodham.
Proud of her success in helping to purge the Nixon monster her ambitious goal to change the world and make a difference fueled her obsessive drive. Today she is almost there and with her gift of brilliance in devising cutting edge ideas and developing progressive concepts such as a national 55mph speed limit law, disgustingly unique and powerful sure winner. Leadership such as this melded with political savvy and a bit of assistance from 14 million illegal aliens voting, often; imprisoned felons voting, often; skillfull pre-planning utilization of existing templates showing that the arsenal of human props made up of blacks and other minorities who by definition are seen by the left as incompetent victims with low abilities but never questioned by the media by the use of the charge that their votes were denied, stolen, prevented, cheated out of and anything else that will work as voter fraud victims who are humiliated for the cause of vote tampering.
Nixon? Ha! Paranoid, enemies lists, dour looking, charmless, surrounded by criminals, vengeful, professional liar, 55mph national speed limits.
No, this is different with Hillary. No one can ever say Hillary is like Nixon. Proven by Hillary's never allowing her 5 o'clock shadow going untended and Nixon lacking big fat thighs and ass.
"I get great fuel economy at 80MPH with my turbo diesel."
I dont even shift into sixth gear until 80mph.
Something tells me she didn't poll this one first.
Drive'n ON!
We should encourage Hillary and the other DUmmies to make this her/their central campaign theme.
On a short pier?
