DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE WORKED TO DEFEAT NAGIN
**Exclusive**
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) secretly placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision himself to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA), sources reveal.
Dean came to the decision to back the white challenger, over the African-American incumbent Nagin, despite concerns amongst senior black officials in the Party that the DNC should stay neutral.
The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program.
The party's field efforts also coincided with a national effort by Democrat contributors to support Landrieu.
Landrieu had outraised Nagin by a wide margin - $3.3 million to $541,980.
Preliminary campaign finance reports indicate many of Landrieus contributions came from out of state white Democrat leaders and financiers, including a $1,000 contribution from Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-NE) PAC.
The defeat of Mitch Landrieu is the latest setback for Dean's often criticized field operation.
In his victory speech late Saturday night, Nagin praised President Bush.
"You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward," Nagin said.
Developing...
Welcome to FR.
It remains to be seen if the RNC has enough smarts to make hay about this and Jefferson being caught on tape.
They need to hammer home the fact that the Dems are not for the blacks, and that the Dems have their own culture of corruption.
Any RNC tyoes reading this out there? Get to work!!
Nagin is not corrupt thats why many of us conservatives and republicans worked for Nagin sent him money , and called our friends to vote for him. There is a huge difference between Nagin and Landrieu. At least conservatives have a seat at the table with him
If Dean can't knock off School Bus Nagin in New Orleans, well, I wouldn't expect him to be around long. Damn, I'd like to hear what Jesse Jackson has to say right now.
I'll put my conservative credentials up against any one here. Not only did I vote for C. Ray yesterday, I worked for him. I walked from the Quarter to uptown to vote wearing a Nagin t-shirt and urging everyone to vote for the man.
I was at the victory party last night. It was the conservative whites that put him over the top thanks to the Couhig endorsement. We had a great time and watching a black audience cheer President Bush and hiss Blank-o was a sight to behold.
Nagin will get the aid in the hands of the people that need it and conservatives now have a place in city government thanks to Couhig.
This Dean story is icing on the cake.
The DNC and Landrieu believed their own lies. Landrieu thought just because he was white all the white republicans would vote him. He and the DNC were quite mistaken by that. They didnt see it coming till the last days and then it was too late.
Thanks to both of you for the information. All I know of him is what I saw during Hurricane Katrina, and I was not impressed. Now I know more. Thanks again.
Well trust me Nagin is far from perfect and it gets tiresome to have to defend him from his self inflicted wounds at times. But Nagin doesnt have a lot of power because of how the system is set up there and most people realize that in NOLA that have to live through it. I mean if he had not made the famous "chocalte City" comment he might have made it in with out a runnoff because there was still a lot of good will toward him still by tsome white libs and many Conserv voters. It was just apparent I think to many that the problem was with the Governor.
But I am hoping the media leaves so in case he says something odd it isnt broadcast nationwide lol
BTTT.
and the desert cart rolls on.....
A lot of the Peggy Wilson crowd voted for Landrieu for that reason. But if you are a conservative who can think for yourself the choice was clear yesterday.
Great post!
We would have been shut out in a Landrieu/Morial administration.
The federal aid will absolutely get in the hands of the people who need it. That also would not have happened under a Landrieu/Morial controlled city.
looks like Dean developed an allergy to Chocolate!
Peggy Wilson, I swear. I have a feeling she will be with us forever. I am hoping that Couhig becomes the voice and face of Republicans in NOLA. I know sometimes his personality turns a few off but he would be a asset especially now since it appears that the republican vote could be one that has to be seriously courted because of post katrina demographics
I am loving this whole thread....I love the story, and the posts are priceless!!
Howard the Dreck strikes again...we have GOT to make sure he stays DNC Chairman!
Thanks for the ping.
IIRC the whole idea behind "voting rights" is to increase minority office holders.....
