DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE WORKED TO DEFEAT NAGIN

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) secretly placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision himself to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA), sources reveal.
Dean came to the decision to back the white challenger, over the African-American incumbent Nagin, despite concerns amongst senior black officials in the Party that the DNC should stay neutral.
The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program.
The party's field efforts also coincided with a national effort by Democrat contributors to support Landrieu.
Landrieu had outraised Nagin by a wide margin - $3.3 million to $541,980.
Preliminary campaign finance reports indicate many of Landrieu’s contributions came from out of state white Democrat leaders and financiers, including a $1,000 contribution from Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-NE) PAC.
The defeat of Mitch Landrieu is the latest setback for Dean's often criticized field operation.
In his victory speech late Saturday night, Nagin praised President Bush.
"You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward," Nagin said.

Drive-by media that squeal about first amendment rights all the time, are Very selective in what they show their viewers. Lots of "editing" going around.
For example, over and over again we see the despicable people who show up at military funerals, claiming to belong to a church, and carrying really ugly hateful signs. The same TV programs rarely shows the patriots who demonstrate when Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink are out and about doing their thing.
No censorship there, just selective editorial decision-making.

I wouldn't put a lot of credence in this if I were you... the Bible says even the demons believe and tremble at the name of Jesus. I recall Nagin's vulgar, rant-filled cursing last year when he was blaming everyone & everybody for failing to evacuate the refugees from NO, when it was his own stupidity and incompetence for failing to activate his own city's buses & school buses. Nagin is a complete buffoon, and personally I could care less whether he is mayor of NO or not....except for the fact that billions of our tax dollars are being flushed down that cess pool.
I would like to cut off our aid altogether and let NO build itself back up, without tax dollars being wasted there.
Drudge has pulled this story, and apparently no one else has picked it up. Lefties are crying B.S.
The thing is, there have been any number of similar events, going back to the selection of Dean, that this story sounds completely reasonable.

I'm not betting the farm on it but I do wish him well and hope he's learned something from Katrina and its aftermath. Most of LA's politicians are so crooked they can't walk a straight line. I often wonder why people keep voting them back in. I, too, worry that our money is being flushed down the NO toilet.
Great! I love it! Yet another example of the DNC wasting a LOT of time, effort and money on a situation where they have no business being involved!

It would be good if he happened to read some of my OTHER opinions, but I doubt it fits into his template. At any rate, I will listen just for the satisfaction of knowoing someone paid attention to what the Rats REALLY think.
Somewhat similar experience here except I was a relatively longtime freeper. Native New Orleanian living elsewhere, but with family & property ties in the city. Had to leave FR and didn't feel safe to come back until a month or two ago (tho' now I'm a little rattled by the fairly rabid immigrant bashing so shockingly prevalent here). But no one who knows me here (TX) as a conservative understands why I was so happy to see Nagin win. Lord knows Nagin's got his faults but anyone who loves the town knows that the crooked Landrieu/Blanco mafia, which is the root cause of all the misery in our city before & after the storm wanted to see those slimeballs win. Reminds me of when I was living there quite a few years ago and the choice was between Edwin (gag) Edwards & David (double gag)Duke for gov: everybody had bumper stickers that said "Hold your nose & vote for the crook." This time, though, Nagin's not the crook. He's a good hearted guy in over his head and lacking the guile & political savvy which would have helped him avoid some of the major gaffes. It's more important what he is not: a member of that sordid band of thieves who have kept LA as their own personal 3rd world fiefdom that I hold directly responsible for many of the deaths & destruction we saw there.

I was listening when Rush listed those instances and knew I'd read that list somewhere on FR, thought it was probably one of MM's post but could not remember which thread. Glad to know that Rush or someone on his staff is paying attention.

Local law enforcement in New Orleans is a joke. The criminal courts building flooded in the storm, regardless, the criminal judges were far too liberal continuously releasing violent offenders, often without bond!
The police department has improves its reputation since the mid 90s. That being said their ranks were decimated by the storm
One good thing Nagin is doing is that he is working with federal law enforcement in an effort to put the bad guys away.
We have pretty much an entirely new city council. The old one was useless. We'll see. I know my new council member fairly well and I think she has some good ideas.
