XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN MAY 21, 2006 20:00:02 ET XXXXX
DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE WORKED TO DEFEAT NAGIN
**Exclusive**
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) secretly placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision himself to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA), sources reveal.
Dean came to the decision to back the white challenger, over the African-American incumbent Nagin, despite concerns amongst senior black officials in the Party that the DNC should stay neutral.
The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program.
The party's field efforts also coincided with a national effort by Democrat contributors to support Landrieu.
Landrieu had outraised Nagin by a wide margin - $3.3 million to $541,980.
Preliminary campaign finance reports indicate many of Landrieus contributions came from out of state white Democrat leaders and financiers, including a $1,000 contribution from Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-NE) PAC.
The defeat of Mitch Landrieu is the latest setback for Dean's often criticized field operation.
In his victory speech late Saturday night, Nagin praised President Bush.
"You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward," Nagin said.
Developing...
"Did you know about Free Republic during the hurricane?"
Do you think Howie made the decision unilaterally? Because I see Dean as nothing more than a useful idiot figure head.
Looks like I can keep my tagline a while longer.
;)
To me it sort of like a 9/11 when I read those threads from that day. Things changed for me greatly on both.
@@@@@
Certainly understandable, I just wondered if you knew that such a great resource for history existed. Thanks for posting the info on Mayor Nagin. NOLA going for the conservative choice must be making Dems shiver all over the country.
I have a rule: the real news is what MSM avoids reporting.
There was not a mention on the Sunday shows about Nagin/Landrieu. The media follow the "move along, nothing to see here" habit whenever the news is bad for liberals.
Dems have "encouraged" the gay movement to "co-opt" the civil rights movement of the 60s in likening being gay to being "black".
And so.. the LA race was between the "liberal" and the "race" candidates. Nagin won this one.
Recent local elections in Durham, NC -- the "liberal" agenda (Nifong) won, the race candidate (Bishop) lost.
Yep, definitely no problems within the Dem party...
You are so right. These ****ing politicians lick their lips whenever a natural disaster hits. They all know that they can make their family's fortune and be set up for years.
It is truly disgusting. That's why there is so much inbreeding among the so called elites.
Thanks for the link.
Why wasn't it leaked BEFORE the election?
Oh my, the talking hacks were not happy. They WANTED Landrieu to win.
Don't forget that hit piece book by Douglas Brinkley. He went after Nagin and praised Landrieu as the one who single handedly saved all the citizens caught in the flood.
The most amazing thing, at least to me, about Nagin's victory speech, was the crowd cheering at the mention of President Bush.
No bet.......
He's GREAT for us, but the Lunatic wing of the Party still believes he is the Second Coming of Marx.....
And they still control the Internet/Activist/Media voice for the Dems these days, despite Hillary and the Washington money Cabal...
Dean and the DNC were trying to get a well known corrupt politicians elected in order to get their hands on more of that aid and relief money.
Plus, they simply don't like blacks in high level offices. By thanking the President, Nagin drew a line in the sand whether he realizes it or not.
Nagin can "bus-em-in" fo a vote from as far away as Atlanta....but can't bus-em-out when those same voters are faced with death from a hurricane.....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........and they still vote for him....makes sense to me....
I hope Drudge has bodyguards.
I see the self named party of tolerance once against works against a black man. When are African Americans going to get it? In my lifetime?
I believe most "get it"...but still have a "run-with-the-pack" mentality.....and a real fear of the "Uncle Tom" label.
And Nagin will back him, now that he knows the rat party leadership was shivving him in the back.
Don't foregt the Congressman Jefferson factor in all this. His grip on the congressional district is gone, seeing as how he's on his way to prison.
