.....I've not heard Rudy's take on illegal immigrants yet....

Herewith find Rudy's immigration politics while he was NYC Mayor:

Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the city’s pre-911 sanctuary policy to thwart a 1996 federal law decreeing that cities could not prohibit their employees from cooperating with the INS.

"Oh yeah?," said Giuliani to his naysayers, "Just watch me."

The INS, Rudy claimed, with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to "terrorize people."

Very poor choice of words, Rudy.

Though he lost in court, Rudy remained defiant to the end.

On September 5, 2001, Rudy'a own boys---his handpicked charter-revision committee---ruled that New York City could still require that its employees keep immigration information confidential "to preserve trust between immigrants and government."

Six days later, on Sept 11, 2001, several foreigners who had overstayed their visas participated in the most devastating attack on New York City that our country had ever seen.

[ Michael Kinsley's column today gets into the great irony of the (potential) Giuliani vs. McCain battle in the GOP primaries in 2008: ]

If you can make it(politically) in New York, you DON'T understand Marx and Lenin..

"How do you tell a Socialist:- It's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an Anti-Socialist someone who understands Marx and Lenin" -Ronald Reagan

We can all go down to the basement and attempt to build the perfect Republican candidate.

Or we can choose between the only two Republicans, McCain and Giuliani, who can win in 2008. One of whom, Giuliani, may be exactly what the times require.

Or we can anticipate all the fun we will have on FreeRepublic post the 2008 election complaining about the Democrat President.

Rudy doesn't have the "kook" factor to deal with like John "It was the strawberrys, I tell ya" McCain.

No. As I understand his background, and I'm far from an expert, his education is Catholic, and so are his principles.

As someone posted earlier we have to find someone who is acceptable as a conservative, and who can win.

On that score, McCain is out. Who does that leave us with?

Excuse me, but I don't think George Allen can win.

Think about it.

It is the duty of the Federal Government to enforce immigration.

What is the responsible path for the mayor of a city as large as NY?

If the Federal Government fails and there are illegals in NYC, what should the city do?

Have those people be afraid to go to the hospital? Only if you want to spread a plague.

Be afraid to report a crime? Only if you want crime to flourish and criminal gangs to grow in power.

He did what he absolutely and responsibly had to do as Mayor and I believe at the Federal level, if it was his responsibility, he would be the ruthless SOB.

I want a ruthless SOB President who will enforce the immigration laws, instead of prompting more and more illegals to break them.

Ask any Liberal and they will tell you that Giuliani is a ruthless SOB. You're half way there.

He is also a practical law and order fanatic.

I believe you would get just what you want from him as President on this subject. Or as close and better then any candidate who can possibly win.

Giuliani on the Republican ticket means I will vote third party (as well as all of my family and most of my friends). We simply don't do pro-abortion candidates.

Add to that the fact that he is not pro-gun, and there is no chance anyone in my family would vote for him.
