A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WEAR RED ON FRIDAY!
*To clarify GeeBee , I hope you and all Daily Openers @ The Finest &The Dose already know this...But the reason you are listed before Finest FRiends is to insure you, the day's Thread starter gets a Ping for sure...I consider you, and all I put before the Finest FRiends phrase, to also be my Finest FRiends. The recipient box doesen't accept the & my other after Thread starter name & Finest FRiends is all... Dosers don't have a recipient box equivelent to Finest FRiends or I'd use that over there*
& Thanks Meg for your red flowers /Troop support ping...Beautiful...As always!
& Dose starters...In case you don't get why ... I send you all warm fuzzy pings on Wednesday via The Finest for all the work you do for all who frequent & LOVE our DAILY DOSE of our DEAR "DUBYA!"

Wear Red on Friday To Support Our TroopsFrom the world's best movie, The Princess Bride, comes this quote:
"I do not think it means what you think it means:"
Dear Friends,
I would like to ask you to join me and Ronnie in wearing something red every Friday until ALL of our service men and women in Iraq are home safe with their friends and families.
Thanks.
(snip)
Increasingly, our Government is redefining "freedom" in ways that make too many Americans perceive that it is risky to oppose his policies -- and, in particular, current inroads about individual freedoms and policies in the U.S. and abroad.
Link
Wearing red on Fridays is a leftie way of protesting against our government. A Google search for "red on Friday" shows a bunch of links to that text. So maybe there should be another symbol of support for our troops.

It all come about because in 1990 the company wanted to be free of the Union in the factory regarding pay negotiation etc.
The long and the short of it they offered the men they same terms and conditions as the office staff as a carrot. This meant their working hours decreased to 37 hours after this they get paid overtime.
They negotiated back though they wanted to take advantage of the lesser hours by leaving earlier not coming in later. So a compromise was struck and standard hours fixed 8.00am start and then it meant if you have completed your 37 hours you can go early on Friday.
Of course like everything people abused that and worked longer hours Monday - Thursday and then wanted either the Friday off or only worked an hour or 2. The company found that if they had customers in on a Friday it looked bad with only half the workforce there past about 9.00am So they had to bring a rule in that you could only flex 2 hours on a Friday and if customers were in you might be asked to work all day.
On the whole though it works and it is nice to get the Friday afternoon off to do bits and pieces and then the weekend is freer to do what you want.

Good Morning Maj
Thanks. I didn't know it would accept Finest Friends. I'm horrible with ping lists. I always fear leaving a FRiend off. This is good to know. :) Have a Wonderful Day!

It is good. You can get those errands and pesky chores done to have more time for yourself for the rest of the weekend. It is difficult on the longer days though. I know sometimes my sister has to leave earlier during the week. In the mornings, a hour can make a big difference. It definitely has pros and cons. :)
