President's Immigration speech - Live thread
me | 05/15/2006 | me

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

It is clear to anyone without an agenda that he meant that the proposed solution would not be as effective as a total deportation which would be 100% effective. You Dimocrat/RINO racebaiters pollute these threads by your presence.

Two of the FROBLs today made nazi references. Howlin said that immigration reform/border security advocates were turning the Republican Party into something from 1939 (Haha, get it? The nazi party. Haha.) Then TexasForever implies that another was talking about the "final solution", implying that they wanted to put illegals in concentration camps and gas them.

Disgusting...

Yeah really. The level of disrespect and the total lack of any kind of cordiality here is really pathetic. I guess the trolls are out enmasse tonight.

Im guilty of it, too, and regret it. This forum has the funniest, smartest, forward thinking people I have ever encountered in a political setting. I understand the disapointment on both sides, but I just dont see how the issue can be solved over night..

The national security question is pretty easily dismissed with this answer.

In terms of national security, which would you rather have:

6,500 agents combing phone records of known Al Queda members, to find connections to new members who might be coming from anywhere, probably legally.

or

6,500 agents at the border trying to find Al Queda agents as part of their numerous other duties.

It must be added that all the 9/11 attackers arrived in the country legally and so not even the fanciest, most wonderful border system in the world would have kept them out.

Better investigative techniques might have, and more persistent investigators might have. But more border patrol people would not have, and that's a fact.

---

The Reconquesta is a more interesting question. To be honest, I don't think it's realistic. As you may remember, the San Fernando Valley tried to secede from Los Angeles a few years back, and the proposal was soundly defeated. The logistics of such a vote would be essentially impossible, since it would involve the entire country, not just the individual segment. That's how the LA secession vote worked and I'm sure a US secession vote would work in the same way.

Furthermore, I think most of those people who came out were attracted by their desire to show their strength as a people, not with any serious desire to become part of Mexico. They then waved the signs they were asked to wave. If you notice, those signs were pre-made and were not created individually by the protestors.

I think those protests were like International ANSWER protests, which I have seen and photographed personally during our counter rallies. If you look at an ANSWER rally, you will notice that many of the signs and people are showing contradictory goals. If you asked ANSWER protestors whether they'd heard of the Korea Truth Commission or Pastors for Peace, I'm sure you'd see blank stares aplenty.

It is actually a policy of ANSWER to conceal who's actually behind the organization and why, so a lot of people who go to those protests are just looking for a fun time protesting, to pick up chicks, and of course to express their hatred for Bush. But they don't know that they are actually supporting the Cuban and North Korean governments by participating.

This is why ANSWER is so well-funded.

I believe some of the immigrant protests were managed by ANSWER and I will bet not one person in a thousand who participated actually knew who ANSWER was or what they stood for, or even what the Reconquesta is.

This is ANSWER's dirty little secret - they drum up support for their cause, even though most people don't even know what it is. So their support is a mile wide and an inch deep, but that's how they get hundreds of thousands of people, few of who actually agree with them, to protest.

"It is way too late to breed our way out of this since the Boomers kids are even less likely to reproduce to replacement levels that their parents were. That is a fact."

Never fear. All of the illegals (all 12-20 million of them) currently in our country are breeding like rabbits. And all those little bunnies are anchor babies, so therefore U.S. citizens. We are overpopulated, not underpopulated. That's not counting all of the illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico who are also breeding their own little anchor babies, all of whom are U.S. citizens at birth. So your concerns are misplaced.

We are chock full of immigrants, and if Bush gets his Amnesty bill through, all of those 12-20 million illegals, once legal, will sponsor bringing their families here from Mexico and other countries. At, and this is probably a low estimate, approximately 4 family members per illegal, our population will explode. So, those 12-20 million will burgeon to 30-60 million in short order. By 2050, we will be a nation of minorities, and will have lost our American identity to the political correctness of multi-culturalism. Hope you don't have children that will have to live with the end result.

I agree. This is like the juvie FR board or something. Bush practically knocked me down tonight saying all the things that me and most conservatives have been wanting for years when it comes to the borders and illegals. I bet Limbaugh and Hannity are all over this speach tomorrow saying how "it's about time!". Tancredo liked it a LOT and really supported Bush on this speach, and given the fact that he co-founded the Minutemen that says it all. As much as Tancredo liked this speach, I think those here who oppose it and are ragging on Bush for this speech really need to grow up and think about it. Tancredo likes the speach! That says it all.

Let's try some facts on for size. Illegals compromise LESS than 3.7 % (three point seven percent) of the American labor force. That is hardly enough to trigger any depression, on any scale.

Static analysis is meaningless for the future; check the Census Bureau projections.

If you assume everything he says is a lie, why bother listening?

Do you think anybody else is more "trustworthy"? Why, because they say what you want to hear?

I think Bush is wrong on several counts, but I both believe that he thinks this is the right thing to do, and I believe that he would, if he could, make the program work just as he says he wants it.

I do NOT believe he is deliberately misleading us to trick us into supporting his plan.

And just as I got tired of correcting the left-wingers when they made this claim about Bush regarding the war on terror, I think I'll get tired of doing so with people on my side of the aisle.

Bush clearly said he would not support a bill that gives amnesty, but a worker program which is not amnesty, and also required that they learn English. That's not something democrats support either.

You're right...It looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck...But it's not a duck...So we can't call it a duck...It's already got a name...And it's name is shamnesty...

No ~LOL~ I just now went back and read it... great minds? People (government included) need to get beyond the emotionalism (on both sides) and think this thing through before it's too late.

I still get tears in my eyes when I listen to an old Reagan speech. I think he was very sincere in is love for America, and for old fashioned American principles.

Your post made tears in my eyes along with a deep longing and sadness for our country. Hearing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing This is My Country gets my eyes wet too.

I agree entirely with this, and I appreciate your statement of support.

Could you (or anyone else reading on this thread) do me a favor sometime? If you know any illegals personally, would you ask them if they know what the Reconquesta is, and if they agree with its goals? See my post #2043 for why.

I'd love to know the answer, especially if they participated in the protests.

I can eat a buncha lettuce...don't forget the shipping and handling costs too! All that expensive Diesel Fuel, reefer trucks etc.

Let's SEAL THE BORDERS, then we can stop the flow, then handle who is who and who's not supposed to be here etc.

This has become such an EMOTIONAL issue...and you can thank the Dems and the MEDIA for stirring it all up...just WHEN? did this get to be such a big deal after 20 years???

"anchor babies"

I was thinking that I could have almost accepted this amnesty program if he would have also said the anchor baby thing would be eliminated.

I looked at the links. I had seen them before.

Citibank hires an illegal janitor. Bankrupt them.

General Motors hires an illegal parts deliverer. Bankrupt them.

Hilton hires an illegal valet parker. Bankrupt them.

Microsoft hires an illegal mail worker. Bankrupt them.

I don't defend doing nothing. But I certainly don't defend what you're advocating. No rational person can.
