President Bush's job approval rating has jumped six points in the wake of a media barrage of criticism over his administration's telephone records collection program.
A Harris Interactive poll published in The Wall Street Journal Online on Friday had Bushs approval rating at an all time low - with just 29 percent of Americans saying they liked the way he was handling his job.
The Harris survey polled 1,003 adults on May 5-8 - before USA Today frontpaged their report on the National Security Agency's telephone records collection program.
A Gallup survey released Friday yielded a similar result, with just 31 percent giving Bush a positive job approval rating.
A Newsweek survey released on Sunday, however, found that the president's approval numbers had improved markedly, with 35 percent saying he was doing a good job. Newsweek polled 1,007 adults on May 11 and 12 and asked specifically about the NSA's phone record collection program, which USA Today's first reported on Thursday, May 11.
An ABC/Washington Post poll taken in the immediate aftermath of the USA Today report found overwhelming support for the anti-terror program, with 63 percent of those surveyed saying they supported the records gathering operation. 44 percent said they "strongly" endorsed it, while just 35 percent were opposed to the operation.
65 percent of those surveyed told ABC/Post pollsters that it was more important to investigate potential terrorist threats "even if it intrudes on privacy."
The Newsweek survey, however, turned up a different results, with a slim majority of those surveyed - 53 percent - telling the magazine that the NSAs surveillance program "goes too far in invading peoples privacy."
So many trolls, so little time. Enjoy your time while it lasts.
Did either of you two bother to read a few of lgjhn's posts over the past 4 years or so? lgjhn's posts
Hardly a troll just because he/she disagrees with the president about immigration policies and has an opinion that doesn't match yours. I, too, voted for President Bush twice and now strongly oppose his proposal for Guest Worker status for 'immigrants'. Am I now considered a troll? Is calling someone a troll the best form of debate?
"President Bush SURGES six points...."
You have got to be kidding.
Despite what Bill Kristol said today, If Bush comes out with a substantial (and no BS) border security plan, his poll numbers should rise between 10-20 points. Let's hope he doesn't screw it up.
In order to show a trend you have to be consistent in your polling method. Comparing a poll of "adults" to previous polls of voters doesn't do that.
Moreover, it would be more accurate to have people polled who have the best shot of actually knowing who the President is...
Posters who use "globalist/trilateralist" in every other sentence ARE goofy conspiracists.
You don't fool me any of the time.
That will only be in YOUR annals.
"Bush is already starting to fool all of the people some of the time. I can't wait till he gets to the part where he can't fool all the people all the time."
GWB is not trying to fool anyone at anytime.
There is an addendum which should be added to the Lincoln quote "You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time," and that addendum is, 'but you can always depend on dead people to vote for Democrats.'
If he would suspend immigration for 8 years (Issue E.O.) his poll numbers would "creep up" to 97% I bet.
Absolutely right. They're unmasking themselves on FR too. [At least it's easy to recognize.]
LOL Another twice fooled gullible moron that slept through 19 debates over 2 elections....OR another liar that never voted for him in the first place. I'll settle for the last option.
AMEN.
How do you see your computer screen through that marijuana haze? Just askin'
While your observation is EXACTLY accurate, as I work in downtown San Fransicko, it would be a waste of time.
A number of clear thinking conservatives have reasoned exactly what these people are: True Believers, they have only blind hatred, emotion, and blind faith. No reason or logic can penetrate to their core belief.
It always shows instantly, they appeal to emotion right out of the box, as in this instance, I get it every day. Emotion won't work on me, they made me immune.
I find the best way to make them uncomfortable is to pretend I haven't the slightest idea of the deadly serious information that they are trying to get me to understand.
That's me, dupe, pawn, tool, dullard, obtuse lackey. I'm waiting for the frustration level to explode someone's head, they're all around me. Hard to keep a straight face too!
That was closer than projecting Gore to win by 9 points.
It's funny how a thread that shows Bush's poll numbers go up, all the trolls double their efforts to exploit differences within FR.
Aw, c'mon, I was just kiddin' - makin' fun of that mooslim adultery/stoning thing. I just plain walking around dumb enough without adding anything called "dope".
I want a poll that asks where the pollee gets their news.
