WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this mornings Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.
The Mexican military doesnt exactly have a good government reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexicos military to the Minutemens location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble, said Tancredo.
Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemens recruitment of more volunteers, said Tancredo.
The Minutemen havent been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrarythey have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemens constitutional right to organize, Tancredo concluded. I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.
The government is helping a FOREIGN government keep an eye on them ..BIG DIFFERENCE
Turf Battle Ping.
The Minutemen got Tennessee's State Troopers' panties in a knot when they arrived in Memphis with a verbal agreement that they would be able to use the Welcoming Center (irony alert). When they arrived they were refused the use of the facility because they didn't have a formal permit and had to conduct their interviews on the sidewalks.
When they got to Nashville (where they had a permit to rally at the War Memorial) the Troopers were lined up all along the balconies of the adjoining Capital Building watching us like vermin through a microscope.
When the authorities fear the common public who's calling the shots?
Please post a link. I honestly want this to be wrong ... somehow, someway. It's very disheartening.
I pinged you to it.

We'll have to keep an eye on this one.
Not just that but the fact that the original claims were based on loose translation of a web page that is a year old.
Hi Chief, I don't know why a lot of people here don't believe #178, I know I do.
Of course you believe it, but then again you just don't have the level of hatred for this President that these folks do.
Not having read the thread, is the suggestion that what Tancredo flipped out about was a totally false story? In any event, it allowed folks to have a cathartic experience, with 500 posts and counting.
"Of course you believe it"

Post 178 is simply Jim R's statement that he believes the story is phony. Are you calling that FACT that proves that the story is phony?
It is an older report, but what do you mean by "original claims", the claims in the newspaper article? If so, why assume that they based it on a Babelfish-type translation of the website?
Yep, the whole story was based on a loose translation of an old webpage at a Mexican government site that doesn't even say what's being claimed...which of course is being repeated by reliable sources such as Michael Slavage.
The White House has denied it but per usual, the usual suspects are calling it damage control. Odd how they claim a webpage on a Mexican government site is true...mistranslated as it is...but the White House is lying.
Well, he is the one that called them vigilantes.
Frankly, I don't see one iota of difference between what the Minutemen are doing and and individual defending his home (house) and family against robbers. Of course, I suspect even a lot of ersatz republicans would like to keep us from doing that also.
I'm not posting this to get in an argument but that seems like a clear statement he made that it's phony. He doesn't say anything about believing it to be.
You see what I mean.
Sometimes one chooses to put faith in Mexican credibility, and sometimes not. It is funny how that works. One thing this site does not have an overabundance of, is patience, or even qualified posts, such as IF this is true, then Bush has a twisted sense of priorities or something.
With that sentiment you and I are in total agreement.
You are right he is two-faced and most of those in the Republican Congress especially the senate are spineless. I voted for him twice also.
