Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

I don't understand your point.

If your point is the dems are worse, I say not that much worse based on what I see and hear lately when I wake up.

This is unbelievable. Treason of the highest order! I can't believe I voted for this president... twice! I had no idea that Bush would not only ignore the border situation completely, but to actively work against LEGAL citizens of this country who are LEGALLY protecting our borders and people of this country. All for what?! Cheap labor and votes? Good lord... I thought it couldn't get any worse than Clinton! If I never hear of the name Bush again, it'll be too soon.

Government and especially law enforcement cant stand to see someone else trying to do their job.

Vigilantism frightens them much worse than Al Quaeda, they cant let anyone be seen as doing what they cant or wont do.

Now while I dont see the minutemen as Vigilantes, the Law Enforcment system does. You can break the law all you want in this country that doesnt seem to matter a lot but never take the law into your own hands , they will track you down like a dog.

Bush sends our men and women to war, too many die, too many come home maimed yet Bush has refused to protect the home land from the Mexican border invasion. Now our own government (Bush) is caught being complicit in that invasion. Jail would be too good for any US official involved in this complicity.

Share your feelings entirely. It has been jaw-dropping shocking watching this President sell-out his base on a daily basis since his second term began.

Don't even try Jeb. Daddy and brother have destroyed your presidential ambitions.

I saw the Daily Bulletin article here last night and called it into Tancredo's D.C. office this morning. His phone admin recorded the link and said she'd pass it on.

They must get a boatload of crank calls because they always seem genuinely thrilled to hear some encouragement. (And, I'm certain I wasn't the only one to give them a heads-up on this.)

I'm still dumbfounded by it. I sit here as the raw truth about what this government is doing, informing a foreign hostile government the movement of law abiding American citizens, and have to stop myself from crying at the utter betrayal.

Sounds like Bush is wanting an international incident. If bodily harms comes to a minuteman, Bush could shut the minutemen down. I get a weird felling border security will be Bush's first veto.

Thanks for the ping. Tom Tancredo is one of the few there that seems to "get it."

I'm not even a hard-core border hawk, but this kind of thing (our government spying on U.S. citizens for a foreign government) just makes me sick.
